Sad news to hear someone, who obviously had a lot of love for the club has passed away.

When ever I hear him mentioned, I always have a little chuckle, remembering him trying to sing You'll Never Walk Alone, when playing Liverpool, during the last game in front of the old Holte End. Poor bloke took some stick!

RIP Holte Ender In The Sky.

Don't think that was him, was it?

Ah bugger! Yes it was Dave Chance, now I think about it! Oops! Apologies.

Gave him stick when he was match announcer during the last few years of Doug's reign but sad stuff.

Must have been sudden as he had a regular column in the Mail and pretty sure I saw him watching us at an away game (with Doug) a while back.

Just read the obituries, Doug said they went to the Stoke game together, that's where I remember seeing him as Doug popped up on the big screen in the second half.

Crikey just over a week ago, shows how sudden death can be.

I was never quite sure of his role at Villa Park,

Wasn't he head of marketing at one point? I'm sure DW has mentioned the story of the Manure Marketing chief in the early 90's telling a reporter of a meeting with another clubs Head of Marketing and stating that the man was a comedian. When pushed for reasons why, he said, "no he was actually a comedian and only got the job as he was good friends with the chairman".

Was that his real name?  D.Ismay?  No wonder he became a comedian. Sorry to hear of his passing though.  RIP.

I wrote The Villa a letter with some ideas many moons ago, and Dave 'phoned to invite me in. Lovely fella RIP.

His job title was Special Operations manager BTW, a sort of 'director without portfolio' as Doug described it.

I too wrote a letter to Doug about 10 years ago asking to have a giant flag made for the Holte, I heard nothing(as I expected) for months then Dave rang me itching to get it done and full of enthusiasm. He got the ball rolling for the one that's there now.

Ah bugger! Yes it was Dave Chance, now I think about it! Oops! Apologies.

All the "Daves" involved in Villa Park announcements used to confuse me. There was a time when it was all ......... "and now over to Dave"......... "thanks Dave"

Thats sad news. Dave was a big mate of Bob Monkhouse and his hero was Tony Hancock who he did a fair impression of.

A Villa man to the end. My condolences go to his family

Just found out we went to the same school. He must have been in the same year group as Ian Lavender (Private Pike) another Villa supporter (allegedly!)

Ron Manager- indeed Ian Lavender is a Villa fan and hence the Villa scarf he wore through the Dads Army series.
