quiz question
« on: April 09, 2013, 12:16:26 AM »
In 1957 Villa played a challenge match against the cup winners of another nation. A kind of early cup winners cup I suppose.

Who were the opposition and where was the game played?

I think I have a 4 page programme for a Villa v Shamrock Rovers friendly. Was that in 1957 ?
Dont know if Shamrock were the Irish cup winners then, they were certainly Irish champions as they played Man U in the preliminary round of the European Cup that season.

It's not Shamrock Rovers nor Glenavon. I must admit I'd never heard of the game being played until I found mention of it in an old book.

The prize is a free weekend for two in Kabul*.

We lost the game 2-1. I'll post the answer later today, when I've had chance to scan the two pictures from the book.

It's not an Irish club.

Slightly warmer with Fortuna 54.
