Pointing
« on: March 26, 2013, 09:45:16 PM »
Has anyone noticed the amount of pointing our players currently do?

Far too often an opposition player makes a run and, rather than the player who's close by and has seen it going with him, he'll point and shout at a teammate to run with/after the opponent instead. The player doesn't see this and so the opposition player is through.

You watch the game this Sunday and I bet it'll happen numerous times.

Players need to go themselves and not point at others to do the job they've seen needs doing.

Just making a point. It's been bugging me for a while that has. Feel slightly better that I've spoken about it.

Agreed, but it's preferable to the David Ginola hands on hips approach.

Westwood does this quite alot.I don't know if it is an individual trait of certain players or orders from the manager and coaches.

I disagree too an extent, football is a team game and I've always thought the best players talk their way through games but there is a difference between this and handing over responsibility which i don't think is the case with us.

One who always does it and really annoys me is Bannon, normally when his man is over 5'1".

Westwood tends to be the main culprit in my eyes. In a good team maybe he can get away with it.

Surely they are there to play football, not to indulge in DIY building pastime activities ?

Mark Kinsella was amazing at pointing.  He was usually stood still pointing at a player who'd waltzed past him like he wasn't there, but he did it with a style and panache that hasn't been matched since.

With a trowel in his hand.

Kinsella was good, but he wasn't a patch on Zat Knight, who was the undisputed king of pointing.

There'd be a ricket dropped somewhere around Zat, the rest of the defence (and the crowd) would look at Zat, but he'd be stood there, pointing somewhere in the distance with a confused look on his face.

Top notch pointing.

I noticed he did this really early on in his Villa career, and it quickly got to the point where I'd be thinking "he's going to do it, he's going to do it, he's going to do it" and I'd close my eyes to avoid seeing it, it was so inevitable.
