Good pubs in central London
« on: February 01, 2013, 01:10:31 PM »
When we play at home against Sunderland on the 27th April I will be in London. I was wondering if people had any suggestions for good pubs in central London. I'm staying near Victoria station, but am planning to get a tube ticket for zones 1 and 2.

Assume the game won't be on TV, so somewhere with Soccer Saturday would be preferrable.

Cheers,

Adam

The Old Red Cow (Smithfield) is great if you like your beers.  Not far from there is the Craft Beer Co on Leather Lane.  They do awesome pork pies to go with an enormous range of beers.

I thought the Tom Cribb in Leicester Square was a nice little (and little being the word) boozer. Not sure if it had any tellyboxes in though.

Good stuff Mike. How come?

I quite liked Lecicester Square on a brief visit there before.

I am a romantic old dog, I know....

My favourite haunt is Tattershall Castle in Westminster, a boat /bar on the Thames by Embankment station.
Not cheap but good beer, good food and great views.

As Risso mentioned those two in Smithfield are pretty decent. If you plan to be in the area, the Jerusalem Tavern on Britton St is worth a visit too.

Unfortunately, there isn't much around Victoria, particularly if you are into your ales, but I'd recommend The Speaker on the corner of Great Peter Street and Perkin's Rents (turn right out of the station entrance  - about a 5-10 minute walk towards Westminster).

If you want to watch footie, The Albert is an option (less good but still has some ales and also has a couple of screens I think). This is on Victoria St (again turn right out of the station, 5 minute walk and it's on your left).

Or, as it was known by MOD staff, 'The Belgrano'.

At last something we enjoy talking about...

Beer in the Evening is a website that punters review ale houses in - I have found it most useful on away days - not infallible - but about right.

You can find Pubs in Victoria here http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml/el/Victoria%3BLondon/show_comments/5/

If you've got an iPhone get the Good Beer Guide app as well.  Served me well last time I was in the capital.

I would imagine that they sunk a few in there....

Good pubs do not have televisions.

It is (named after the great prize fighter) a nice little pub. I dont remember any Tvs either.
