So, the current thinking is that because we have had a crap season and the team/club imploded since Chelsea, it is ok to use another defeat as fuel for the bonfire that is Aston Villa.  Is that right and fair.  I do not want people saying that my club was humiliated when it was an exaggeration to a defeat just to make a headline.  Or should I just curl up and accept it like others.

Im not worried what people describe it as , it was a humiliating week rather than night - more worried about tuesday now , that game is gone.

In isolation the Millwall game wasn't a humiliation. Far better sides in far better form have gone out of cups to sides a lot worse than Millwall. I remember us going out the LC under BFR to Grimsby, a full strength 80-82 side went out to Cambridge (who might have been a Div 4 side at the time). And so on.

What makes a difference now is that it came 3 days after Bradford and on the back of the really shite month we've had.

After crashing out to Bradford in completely humiliating fashion, instead of coming out against Millwall and showing we were Lions we once again came out looking like Lambs and were beaten by another team that shouldn't be able to beat us.

Sorry to sound pedantic but it depends on what you mean by humiliated.

I found it humiliating because it was so predictable.   I did not expect us to beat Bradford and we did not.   I did not expect to beat Millwall and we did not.

I find so many of our games humiliating because they are winnable and we just panic and run up the white flag.

I find the fact humiliating that only Ron Vlaar had the guts to come and face fans who had frozen their nuts off in a vile and hostile environment to witness yet another feeble performance.   All the others, including the manager turned their backs on us and slunk off. the pitch.

I find it humiliating that an average player like Danny Shittu towered above our attack and our defence like Franz Beckenbauer.

The humiliation is cumulative.

I'm guessing you meant you did not expect us to get through because we did beat them, just not by enough.. In a similar vein to the OP, I do wonder though if that result would look as bad if Swansea lost to them and Bradford won the cup. Yes it would be bad for us, but in the record books we would be one of 4 premier league teams to lose to them. Not that I see it happening though, Swansea should have the run of Wembley with their passing.

Brian, you are right in most of the things you said.

My thoughts are based on hearing "another humiliation for Aston Villa" after the match.

For me it's been a cumulation of events since we were soundly thrashed by Chelsea.

Agreed. Don't forget that that was our first game after that great week where we thought everything would be fine. It's so clear that the impact of that scoreline on their confidence has killed our season.

Getting knocked out by an U14s girls team would be humiliating, but losing to 11 other professional footballers isn't. it's all part of the magic of the cups and everyone gets to suffer it at some stage.

The word 'humiliation' is an easy soundbite when describing a Premier league team being knocked out by a side in a lower division.

Liverpool humiliated by little Oldham.  I do not expect to see that headline.
