So, he never scored a league goal at Villa Park in 2012? oh dear.  :o
Is that correct?

Gabby is an easy target and yes he has had a lapse in form, but consider injuries, differnt managers and different uses of him and often being played out of position.

In comparison to the performances of people like Bennett Kea Delph Bannan Ireland  Nzog he is not doing that badly.

I prefer to see Gabbys name on the team sheet than any of the aforementioned above.

I agree he's been in and out for various reasons, but he should really have scored at home in that period.

He has more pace than skill, and should always be the furthest forward, playing on the shoulder of the last defender. The opposition then drop deeper to accommodate him, creating more space in midfield. He is wasted anywhere else.

Right, who should we pick on next?

If we're talking about underperforming players, there's a huge list to choose from. It's hardly picking on a player.

Singling out one player from an under performing squad is, to my mind, picking on him. In Gabby's case I think it's particularly undeserved as he's been played out wide a lot of the time, he's also missed time with injuries and he's one that you can never criticise for lack of commitment and unlike some he doesn't hide when the going gets tough.

Stating facts isn't necessarily picking on players :)

Only really if he's being picked out and others aren't.

A quick look at the various threads shows pretty much every squad member to have "copped it" the last few days. In fact, over the whole season.

I take your argument re Gabby, and agree with much of it, but someone disagreeing with it and posting to that effect doesn't make it picking on him, or - as someone is bound to use the word soon enough - scapegoating him. It just makes them disagreeing with you.

In a nutshell.

It was good to see us being able to bring on a player of his quality from the bench. There haven't been that many opportunities to do that; something which those at the top take for granted.

He isn't good enough and he's had plenty of chances. He's no longer up and coming with an opportunity to develop (unlike a lot of our squad).
Time for him to move on to a team more at his level e.g. Wolves.
