Yes I saw a tweet about this earlier today.  Am fortunately working from home today so have the opportunity to listen.   My all time Villa hero is this fella and as much as last night was just brilliant, I wish he could come back in a time machine and own the pitch at Villa Park again.

Still get upset and unreasonably bitter about what that bastard Ally Brown did in December 1977.  Shameful and and unfortunately Alex was never the same again.  What a player though

I remember a charity match that villa played against an Army team CAD Kineton I think it was when I was a kid

I am sure that Alex played in that match [although my memory of it is not great, I think Gary Shelton played as well]

I could be way off but I am sure I got his autograph at the match, I will see if I can find the match day card I got with his signature on it

Already put this on the 'memories' section earlier, Mods feel free to merge/delete.
Will be listening to Alex, a great little player as brave as a lion.
Got his testimonial programme somewhere, must dig it out.

TS have been rolling out some  old Villa boys today. I heard Ray Houghton , George Boateng, Steve Staunton etc.  This is all good coverage after a great win.

Will give it a listen later, how good was Alex, I know Gordon Cowans came through because of that injury to Alex, but how good was he?

He didn't like Saunders much and, erm, that's about it so far to do with Villa!

He was my personal favourite but whereas Sid had two great feet then Alex was mostly all left foot.  However what a left foot he had, it could open a can of beans as the old saying goes.  And he was a lion in the tackle.

Sid and Alex did have some time together in that never forgotten to be season of 76/77 and just wish they could have stayed together longer.

Well it wasn't much cop really, only mentioned Villa towards the end when, mostly prompted by Andy Gray, he reminisced about the Liverpool 5-1 game, the QPR semi final, never recovering from the leg-break from bastard Brown and coming back against Brighton which finished him off.
Only points of interest is that he hated Saundewrs, and didn't feel he got the best treatment from the physios at Villa at the time.

Fantastic signing for £125,000 by Ron Saunders. Fantastic player. I have watched the villa since 1971 and he would stroll into any team we have had over the past 41 years.

  My favourite ever Villa player.

Heard it, and disappointed with the interview tbh.Went on too long about him going to Arse, never heard what he said about RS, and his non comments about his broken leg tells you everything about what he thinks of that bastard Ally Brown.

Still nice to hear off the great man, and to think he is now a taxi driver.Andy Gray seemed to like him, good luck Alex, and thanks for the memories.

Given the choice of Cropley or Sid at left midfield I'd go with Cropley, only just maybe, but that says it all about how good he was.
