We used to sing 'Strolling', ( by the light of the silvery moon etc..), in the late 60's - early 70's

Yeah, same with my dad. Something like, "goodbye Bristol City, goodbye Burnley...etc"

I appreciate my example is somewhat sketchy :P

There used to be a song with one expletive inserted about how you intended to inwardly indent the craniums of the opposition fans.
Because it was such a simple one line song which anybody could easily pick up the words to, all  sets of supporters would sing it without any variation.

"When you're smiling" and "If you've a troublesome sore throat" are the only two I can think of that remain unchanged when sung at VP.

The latter was an advert in the seventies which - for some reason - became a Holte End hit for a few years.

I think the former could be "owned" by us if we wanted to - and I think the words are very apposite. Perhpas the Brigada Boys (who started a few on Saturday) are listening - if so, go at it and make it happen!

Like it or not, when the likes of Stoke sing Delilah or Sheff Utd sing Annie's Song it comes across powerfully in the media.

But on the other hand, both of those red and white stripey nobs are tramps.

If we ever have 'We Will Rock You' as an anthem I will support somebody else.

When You're Smiling should be the Villa anthem.
