After giving it some serious thought I have come to the conclusion that our problems lie with us having shit players and shit coaches.

...... and Benteke loses his man.
Personally, I'd employ a sniper to bring him down should he encroach within 30 yards of his own penalty area. Does nothing back there other than to lead our defenders to momentarily think, "we're okay, CB's got their big fella", before seeing yet another opposition player power in a free header from the space left by our erstwhile ball-watching centre-forward

Training won't improve these clowns.

Training consists of Bannan floating overhit corners from one side to the next as Clark and Baker watch them sail over their heads thinking bloody hell we're improving.

I honestly think that Sid Cowans would do a better job of taking a corner, even at his age than Barry Bannan. Whether he's taking them as directed by the coaches to lob them in at the back post like a golfer dropping a lob wedge onto the green I don't know, but they are woeful. We may as well let the opposition have a goal kick as us have a corner.
£20k a week and can't take a corner... this is why we're in the shit.

Just thinking about where Sid does fit into this? Does he not have a voice there? If ever there was a person that could offer some insight or assistance on this topic it would be him. I still remember him dropping the ball with consumate ease onto the head of Ormondroyd for Platt to steam on to. It was just so very easy. Now, every corner, ever free kick is a guaranteed wasted opportunity.

I've just read that we've conceded 67 goals from set pieces in the last two and a half seasons.

Defending corners properly is really not that hard.

The set piece thing.

post Mon

1) senior pros taking the piss

2) We've been on the back foot a lot over the last 3 years
so have probably conceded more corners/ free kicks/ penalties
due in part to desperate last ditch lunges.

3) We have some real scrawny weedy looking players on our books.
Who get shrugged off easily.

4) Self fulfilling prophecy. we've conceded so many, we actually dread
the damn things, we're half beaten before any bloke puts the ball into our box.

5) Given and Friedal hardly ever leave their goal line.
Not a criticism they never have been that type of goalie.
But as the only players (apart from Suarez) allowed to use their hands,
having big bad Brad coming out to catch a few is a must imo.

I bet the defenders look good in training when doing corners, they have to defend against players that are shit at attacking them.  Answer to the problem is - sign better players.

Our attacking throw-ins are absolutely woeful as well.  Where is the variation in the corners and throw-ins though?  Where are the short corner routines if option A isn't working?

Also, not being content with not being able to defend opposition corners, we seemingly can't defend when we've got a corner either.  The number of times we have been caught on the break from our own corners and throw-ins in the past few weeks is shocking.

What we should do is get every Villa player to stand on the goal line for a corner.

We are not as bad when Guzan is in goal, Given is the one common denominator

Seen as we never score from a corner.

Is the only reason Bannan takes them is because he's Gremlin size?
