Kit Conundrum
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:20:56 PM »
From the OS News:

Villa's home kit has achieved the best sales for ten years while the away top has achieved a six-year high in figures too.

Why?

Debate.

New manufacturer - I'd imagine the first season of any new manufacturer generally sells better as kids don't want to be seen wearing "the old shirt".

Unusual kits always sell well too - that's why the away kit has done so well.  The stripey home top we had in the mid-90s was one of the best selling replica tops we've ever had.

It also helps if they're available to buy and not stuck in a factory in Thailand or wherever awaiting despatch.

It could be due the Paul Lambert factor?

Or to put it another way, the absence of Alex McLeish factor.

I agree with the above, The first time in a few years we have managed to get the holiday wear market sales. But the main consideration will be if these figures are from the manufacturer or just from club sales. If the latter, wasn't it hard to source apart from official channels?

Happier consumer innit? People went into last season rather gloomy and it translates accordingly in merchandise sales or not as the case was. Football fans by nature are gluttons for punishment so even with TSM in charge there would have been some who still wanted to buy the kits. This season started at the end of last with the dismissal of TSM and with it the lifting of clouds and everything just seemed better. Add in a new kit manufacturer (many had grown weary of Nike treating us like bollocks), a kit delivered on time, a stylish home kit, and an away kit colour that is really unique, and you have a combination of factors why the mood is better and the sales are up.

I havent bought a shirt in years...I'm still pondering whether or not to buy this one.

I would say the increase in sales is due to the return of the feel good factor that has been installed by the appointment of PL and pretty much everyone buying into the new philosophy...for the first time in years we may actually be seeing the birth of the "bright future" that Randy has been trying to sell us since he came in.

Very surprising as the MON years and the Nike deal had a much bigger 'feel good factor' about them.

I got an email saying I could get free printing on shirts for new signings....so I bought my first home shirt since the FA Cup Final in 2000.

Nice kit all right and after 6-7 washes the Macron logos have finally fallen off the sleeves.

Usually only had about two weeks of sales by now. I note Blues new kit only came out today.
