Are these UEFA fair play rules ever going to happen or even work?    Lets hope

They will happen

They won't work because some of the clubs who would be worst effected (real madrid are the prime example) are some of the most powerful and they'll just sulk and restart talks of a european super league outside the control of UEFA, all UEFA can do is tell the players that playing for those clubs would make them ineligible for international but most players wouldn't care if they're playing for the best clubs in the world and being paid sillly money to do it.

The thing is, all the Billionaire owner has to do is sponsor his own club for £1b over 5 years then the club is operating within it means as they now have £200m a year extar to play with.

There are rules in there designed to prevent non-commercial transactions like that.  Whether they will work or not, who knows.

I would think it would be difficult if not illegal to enforce they could just set up any old ltd company then use them as the sponser on the shirt, ground, etc.

They could even hold a raffle to raise money for the club and the owner could buy a ticket for £1b.

there will be so many loop holes would be almost impossible to stop.

The fair play rules were probably intended to create a closed shop. EUFA couldn't give a monkey's about distorting about distorting domestic competitions, it wants a European Super league consisting of the most lucrative brand name clubs.

Plaitini has told PSG they need to be 'creative'. Has any club other than Portsmouth been denied entry?

What kind of champions league UEFA will actually get is another matter.

Zenit St. Petersburg's, now owned by Gazprom, have just struck a large sponsorship deal with subsidiary Gazprom Neft. Gazprom itself has just signed up to become an 'official partner' of UEFA.

No conflict of interest there then.

Clubs proposing that 'fair play' rules be introduced domestically : Manchester United and Liverpool.

Didn't Portsmouth get refused because they hadn't actually applied rather than due to finances?

Portsmouth missed the deadline initially because they were already in breach of UEFA regs by virtue of being in administration.

They subsequently appealed to be allowed to apply for a license, but the FA declined to support the appeal.

One thing is for sure, clubs like QPR should not be allowed to play top flight football, with wages to turnover ratio at 200%.

Don't the new FFP rules make this illegal ?

I think it means that they wouldn't be eligible to play in Europe. Could be wrong though.

I'm guessing possibly not being eligible for Europe this season is not top of QPR's worries at the moment.
