I have never seen him play in the reserves, but everytime he has played first team football, I have been left wondering what I am supposed to be seeing in him?

It was hard for him to show his full potential in Alex McLeish's Aston Villa.  Last season I thought he looked very good in the away match to Wolves (his debut?) but as things became more desperate for Villa he got more and more lost in McLeish's backs-to-the-wall negative tactics.  Despite this, he made a telling contribution, firing the long range shot v Fulham at home that Andi Weimann bundled in.

I think that he needs time in a winning side with some nurturing, experienced players around him. Hopefully, that'll be at Villa in next season's EPL.

I thought he looked quality when he came on as a sub at Newcastle last season. Drove the team forward in search of an equaliser.

Given the severity of the two injuries he has had a at such a young age I doubt he will ever get back to his full potential.
That's a very good point.

I think he will still. Those injuries are totally different now, and while it is a long time out, it is a better fix than say if Gabby started to struggle with him hamstrings as they are harder to put right long term, despite being out a shorter period. Vlaar, Van Horselface, Wilshire, and many, many more are playing top level following serious knee injuries that they now know how to fix.

Possibly, but treatment and rehabilitation are so much more advanced these days that I don't think we can say that with any certainty.

I'm more worried by the time he's missed than if he'll be fit enough.

He'll be our captain next season when we win the championship at a canter with 100+ points.  He needs to start growing that Mortimer-style beard pronto.

He was the best player on the park in every single one of the NextGen games I saw last year, he's going to be a major star if he fully recovers from this injury.

I'm by no means writing him off, and of course it was hard to judge him last season under TSM, but I too was at a little bit of a loss to understand quite why he was considered to be the great hope from the youth team.  He wasn't a bad player at all, he just didn't seem particularly good at any one thing that you could point to.

Do you think that was anything to do with his size PW? I didn't see much NextGen but I wasn't particularly impressed with his reserve outings, apart from the odd one.

To be fair to him he found Rudolph's lost red nose and saved Christmas. This was during the mini panto at the JV life party at the Tamworth snow dome. My six year old daughter thinks he is a God.

I agree with ads and Riss about Gardner. I've just not seen it yet with him. He seems to be one of those players who are just there. Certainly claims of him being the next Hoddle or Gerrard appear to be a bit much. Still, he is young and will hopefully develop.

I saw that on avtv. His acting was fookin' shocking. Just as well he's the next Sid Cowans.
