Kevin Sheedy diagnosed with bowel cancer
« on: August 22, 2012, 12:45:04 PM »
As a lad growing up I always admired Kevin Sheedy, he was a super player for Everton with a very Sid Cowans like left foot. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery. Maybe we could do something to wish him a speedy a recovery on Saturday?

Maybe find out if/what the Everton fans are planning to do and join in?

My fondest memory of him is that goal against England in Italia '90.  Just checked and he only got 46 caps for Ireland, which surprised me.

Best wishes to him!

Best wishes to him, very good player. Ireland had some midfield when he was playing didn't they? Can't exactly remember the personell but I recall being quite impressed.

Years ago, quite a crowd of Villa would go to the semi-finals at VP, hang around causing trouble and go in when they opened the gates near the end.

I think one year Everton gave us a free half-hour of extra-time by scoring a late equaliser, might have been against Luton. I think that was Sheedy with a good free-kick, so cheers Kevin. If not, maybe he got the winner.

A very good player.  I remember him scoring a crucial goal for Ireland v England back in Italia 90, I think.  The thing about the Ireland team of those days is that people spoke of them constantly as underdogs yet they had so many top, top players playing for top, top clubs.  McGrath, Staunton, Stapleton, Whelan, Brady, Houghton, Sheedy, Aldridge, O'Leary...these are guys that won leagues, cups, you name it.  When Ireland played England in the Euros in 88 you'd have thought England were up against a pub team!

Back to Sheedy, I recall him scoring the winner for Everton v us at Villa Park back in '87, I think.  A class act and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Really good player, I wish him all the best.

I remember taking an Everton supporting mate to VP when we played them one year and him seeming to spend the whole game saying (very quietly, we were stood on the Holte) "go on Sheedy, lad", it was as though everything of note went through him.

That Everton side were very good indeed, and would have won a hell of a lot more had we not had our clubs banned in Europe.
