PRIZED medals of a former Aston Villa captain are going under the hammer – after being discovered buried in the rubble of a demolished Birmingham bank.

The football memorabilia belonged to Alex Leake, who captained the club from 1902 to 1907 and who once famously blew the whistle on a match-fixing scandal.

It seems that it happened some time ago. They didn't just get them and immediately put them up for sale.

Admittedly, it's none of my damn business, and if they're having financial difficulties, fair play to them, I just couldn't imagine selling off something like that if it were won by my relatives.

Did anyone notice the circular gold medal with the gold lion rampant against a claret ground on the original shield shape, with the word "Prepared" beneath the shield?

Not sure it can be identified from the descriptions, but rather classy I thought.

If you look carefully, you can just make out a few rainbow sprinkles on a couple of the medals.

Ah the good old days. Now they empty the vaults then scarper, leaving the customers to sift through the ruins.
