ST for person with disability?
« on: June 09, 2012, 09:20:53 AM »
Didn't want to hi-jack the renewals thread.

My son has autism and an LD but has amazingly taken to match days like a duck to water over the last 3 seasons (even though we do have to miss the first 10 minutes of every match standing in the concourse).

Currently I am registered as his Personal Assistant so we pay for his ticket.

We want to buy him a season ticket for his 18th birthday and wonder if anyone knows how this may work due to his disability - will we have to sit in a specific area etc?

Phone the club would be your best bet.

Try Sheila Mayberry on 0121 326 1518. She also sorts out away travel / seats for disabled people, even if the disability is temporary.

I know someone who used to take his autistic son to Villa Park so I've just phoned him.

They were given seats in Trinity Lower at the back of the stand. Carer goes for free.
Phone 0121 326 1518 or e-mail disability@avfc.co.uk for details.

That sounds about right, carers should go free where possible (can be complex in some circumstances) but you should not have to restrict yourself to a particular area unless you request it. Also if it is directly relevant to disability (e.g. near the isle, exits etc.) you should be provided preferential treatment and choice. This is a legal right for all public bodies to provide and seen as good practice for all similar services to the general public.
If it cannot be set up right in time for this year I am sure the club will do everything possible to meet any reasonable request for regular fans.

Thank you very much for all that information and effort on our behalf.

Well AVFC have kept up their usual high standards (no joke!).
I mailed the diability address this afternoon and had a call waiting for me when I got in this afternoon.
Having a chat on Monday and sounds very positive.

When Villa do something well they are brilliant.

Well said and good luck, I'm sure they'll get you sorted.  Sheila helped me enormously season before last for some away games when I was on crutches.

I have found Sheila to be  extremely helpful. Since Christmas I have had problems with my leg which makes walking any distance impossible. She sorted out car parking passes for all the matches so I didn't have to walk too far and this season has come up with a season ticket for the Holte End car park which has meant that SOTC & I have been able to renew our season tickets.

Without the car park ticket we would not have been able to renew.

Thanks Pauline. I hope it gets better too but at least it doesn't hurt! Think I've baffled medical science seeing as they don't seem able to come up with a diagnosis!

Oh dear, it's horrible not knowing what's wrong.  Mind you, at this moment in time, I'd swap my torn knee ligaments for your pain free leg.  Just for a few days, mind, just while we're getting Jon through his op.

I hope they find out what's wrong soon and they start any treatment to make it better.

Thanks I hope so too. I can get about ok although I do use a stick when walking in crowds .

Hope the two of you are soon back on your feet.

Haha. I've got an image of you waving the stick around to move the crowd.

Thanks and good luck.
