Expectations for the Villa manager
« on: June 02, 2012, 12:31:11 PM »
Now we have a new manager what are our expectations for next season?
What will we have to achieve to call his first season a success?  Personally I would be happy to see a gradual improvement based on buying quality and adding the youth from our academy and building from a solid base.  I don't expect a top 6 or even a top10 next year, mid table would be just fine.

I think a similar first season to MON. Bring in some quality players who will serve us both now and in the future, continue to develop the likes of Weimann, Clark, and Herd; and finish around mid-table through successful, attacking football.

To build a side that attacks and plays good football and is no longer whipping boys for the teams at the top of the league. He needs to start the process of getting us back up the league.

I'd be happy with mid-table and some beter football to be honest for next season then build from there.

Midtable, at no point in serious danger of the drop will do.

Finishing above Smethwick and Sturk as top club in the Midlands (although small-time) would represent progress.

Now you mention it, it would be very nice to finish above Albion.

With the current squad we could get 13th ish or with 2 or 3 good signings 9th . We were woefully mis-managed last season.

Agreed. I'm fed up of everyone saying we have a poor squad, it's not true.

That's how I see it too. I think three clever additions could see us finish top ten. We have a squad that should not be fighting relegation but did. He has a real opportunity to lay a very solid foundation next season.

To look forward to going to the match again would be enough for me.

I agree we were woefully mismanaged last season. I dont think we need to buy many players at all. A striker obviously and Grant Holt would fit the bill. a Roy Keane type leader in the middle of the park for the kids to play around and one or two competent defenders would help. That's just four players required. Out with Warnock, Collins, Hutton, and Dunne and comfortable top 8 no problem. With all out attacking play some 5-4 wins and some 4-5 losses but very entertaining and good value for money football.
