Sir Graham Taylor
« on: May 30, 2012, 10:28:33 PM »
Has stepped down as Chairman of Watford. If Randy Lerner has any sense at all he needs to get him on the board at Aston Villa. We need a football man on the board who understands this club. Randy has to make it happen!

Much as I respect Sir Graham, I don't see the point of bringing him back. The new manager won't want the interference either.

I saw an interview with him on How To Be An England Manager on BBC3 last night. Very honest and emotional about his time as national coach. I'm torn between wanting him back in some capacity but also accepting the new man has to be his own man and do things his way.

so all the clamour for a steve stride type person on the inside, knowing football inside out, advising the inept paul faulkener and keeping his finger on the football pulse would be an interference??
i think it would be a bloody good move!

I'm 50/50 on this. Whilst he's very much yesterday's man, Taylor is very experienced and could probably offer a lot of good advice behind the scenes. However, I wouldnt agree that it's critical we get him in. Be nice if it happened though.

I'd like him back in some capacity.

I would love him back as a chairman or at some capacity with the club.

I saw that BBC3 programme and apart from Sir Graham could not get over how many cretins were featured on it.
His diginity shone through and it is a shame it did not work out for him as England manager.

A no brainer for me, to have GT on the board would not be interference but support from somebody who has fantastic football knowledge and experience, and also loves the Villa.
I hope we at least have a conversation with him about it.

He looked worringly ill to me.

I fear he would be saying quite a lot of things that the owner and his advisers probably wouldn't want to be hearing. Therefore he's unlikely to be considered '

Take a look at his resignation letter on the Watford web site - he won't be joining us.  Shame, could do with his input.
