In my opinion it is still extremely important to have not only proven winners but people who are Villa through and through at the club Sid and Kmac  definitely fall into that category (it may mean that their current job role may change but just like at Man United and Liverpool (of old) I think you need people like that to pass on the clubs history and their experience etc. I wouldn't compare keeping them on to Newcastle wanting to appoint Ant and Dec.

Look at the club mentioned above.  Newcastle.  They go in for sentimental nonsense like this there.  If we appoint OGS he needs to bring his own men in, not have someone foisted on him to further appease the fans.

100% agree with this and including Sid and Mac if that is the case

I know this is heresy to even raise, but Sid has been on the bench for the last two seasons, and one imagines has a big roll in coaching.

Hmmm.

As was MacDonald this season.  You could argue that the pair of them have been given a pretty easy ride considering.

As much loved as they are, if OGS wants them out or back with the reserves and youth, then so be it. The new man should get his own coaching team that he wants.

Oh and if going down the former player route, what is the man who Solskjaer played alongside at United and for Norway, former Villa player Ronny Johnsen?

Maybe the backroom staff need flushing out?

There does seem to be an air of complacency around the place, hopefully OGS or Lambert could get rid of the malaise.
If that means old favourites getting the push, so be it.

Totally agree Jim.  I know it has been covered before, but John Deehan mentioned in a radio interview a few weeks ago that a number of candidates turned the job down last summer because it was stipulated that Cowans and K-Mac had to be on the coaching staff.  Again, hopefully lessons were learned from that.

Best players don't make best coaches.
Best forwards can't teach others how to be best forwards.
Best defenders can't teach  others how to be best defenders.
People who are naturally gifted can not explain their talent to anyone.
Wayne Rooney will be a shit coach if he ever tries to be.

SAF does not have a single sentimental bone in his body when it comes to winning.  He hired Ole because he thought he'd make a good coach, not because of his playing career at the club.

Let's have a first eleven of ex-players as coaches to work with each position.  I'll start with Alan Wright as specialist short-arse coach.

How about a roll for Richard Dunne?

I think he prefers ham and bacon with mayonaisse, hold the salad.
