King Carlos Day - Sunday 13th May
« on: May 10, 2012, 12:33:45 AM »
Hey all,

I did think about putting this in the match thread, but we are trying to drum up as much interest as we can on this to give the big buy the send off he deserves.

Mat Kendrick, Jack Woodward from the media are backing it and there will be a mention of it in the Birmingham Mail over the next few days.

We have a lot of the youth and reserve team backing it too with Jack Grealish, Emre, Gary Gardner and more Re-Tweeting.

We have so far printed off 500 Carlos masks and will be handing them out to fans before the game. we are calling on all fans to come in curly wigs, spanish flags, print off Carlos masks themselves.

Would really appreciate everyones support on this, and you can follow @micsymmonds or @KingCarlosDay on twitter for more info on it and to have any questions answered.

I hope all of you going will come out and support and thank Carlos this way, and although most of us dont agree with him going, it will be nice for him to feel appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

I don't want to sound like a killjoy, but you make out like he has been some kind of Villa legend.  Ok he has always been complimentary about the club and fans but I can only remember about 10 really good games that he played for the club during his stay.  Is this all not a little OTT for an average player who did not sign a new contract?

Agree with everything Singapore says.  Martin Laursen and Olof Mellberg deserved this kind of accolade.  Carlos Cuellar does not.  He has been paid handsomely during his stay at the club, but is an average to good, journeyman footballer who ultimately failed to cut the mustard!

He's been a good pro and deserves a clap. Not sure much else is required though!?

Over the top was my initial thoughts, but then as I thought about it why not enjoy it. You fans who go to the games regularly have not had a hardly anything to cheer or get excited by all season.
Carlos has been a great pro, he has played to his best ability and gives it his all. Always popular with the fans but never fancied by the management. He appreciates being at the Villa so why not give him a send off, he is a very likeable chap and why not try and enjoy the las Villa match of the season.

So what if it might be a bit OTT? It's the last match of the season, we're safe barring an event of cataclysmic proportions, the knuckledraggers are still in our shadow and it's been a shit season all round so go on, enjoy the moment and make the most of it!

Its got more to do with most fans thinking what a shower of shit the rest  of the defence is.

Reserve the right to call it off if he knocks in 17 own goals and we get relegated.

If Carlos had played more, he wouldn't be seen as the legend/hero that he's perceived by many.

Its a classic........... sorry here comes another Americanism............ "Backup Quarterback" situation. Many people always think that the bloke who isn't playing is always better than the bloke who is.

He wasn't much of a legend 2 weeks ago when he booted that Bolton player over.

Me too, an extremely average footballer in my view, nice guy and all that granted, but hardly deserving of this kind of treatment. It shows how low we have sunk to be celebrating this sort of thing. Very small time in my opinion

Isn't this going to clash with Emporer Emile Day?

Sounds good to me - He's not a legend, but has served us well and seems like a good bloke. We are allowed to have fun at football matches sometimes....

Well, it's better than the idea proposed on here to go dressed all in black.
