Petrov, Ireland and Weimann the big winners at annual awards
Winners from Villa's end-of-season dinner.

Stiliyan Petrov, Stephen Ireland and Andreas Weimann were the big winners at Villa's end-of-season dinner.

Austrian striker Weimann walked away with two gongs - Goal of the Season for his strike against Stoke City and the Young Player of the Year award.

Ireland won the Terrace Trophy which is handed to the Supporters' Player of the Year.

And skipper Petrov got the nod from his team-mates with the Players' Player of the Year.

The club captain was unable to attend the end-of-season dinner at the Holte Suite because he is currently undergoing treatment for acute leukaemia.

But Petrov passed on his appreciation in an emotional pre-recorded video message.

In the message, he thanked his team-mates and the claret and blue faithful for their support since he was diagnosed with the illness.

Eric Lichaj picked up the award for Best Goal Celebration for his 'chicken noodle soup' dance after scoring in the Carling Cup win over Hereford United.

First team coach and club legend Gordon Cowans was named Old Stars Player of the Year by the Aston Villa Former Players Association.

AVTV caught up with Ireland and Weimann shortly after they collected their awards.

Surprised that Ireland scooped the award ahead of Given.   Most improved player, aye.  If we had that as an award.  But Given has been outstanding from pretty much the first game at Fulham away.

Didn't they have a category for The Most Patient Fans In The Premiership Award?
Just a question!

With a respectful nod to Stan of course, the list of winners says it all really about our season. To think that a player like Stephen Ireland should win the terrace trophy.....dear me. And whilst it's nice that Weimann won the young player award, exactly how many minutes has he spent on the pitch this season?

What about the award for the most inept and hated manager? Toss up between AM and Keen.

I'm pleased Stan got the player of the year award and Weimann's deserved his goal of the season and young player of the seaon award.

Not really, at a Villa awards dinner. But well done for getting another dig at McLeish in.

Given was on 5Live this morning to talk about the Citeh - Ure game, the first couple of minutes were taken up with questions about the future of you know who and of course he came out with the usual guff about him being a very good manager waffle, waffle. Then he mentioned the awards and said as far as he is concerned none of them deserve any awards for the season we have gone through.

And he's absolutely right. Possibly a Young Player of the Year award, but certainly not the senior one.

He's got that bang on then. The 'lap of honour' on Sunday will be pathetic.

Ireland?? - says it all really.

Young player? - I'd say Herd should have won this for the way that he helped Stan shore up our porous CMF, as well as one of two great games at RB.

Not to knock AW or anything.

Supporters player of the year ? Ireland ?
Does that mean people voted for him ?
Does that mean some of these people can actually vote in 'proper' election ?
Bloody hell, thats frightening !!

Just so we're clear, Ireland was chosen by the fans after a lot of games as Man Of The Match. The Points Table is as follows....

S.Ireland            32
G.Agbonlahor    23
S.Petrov            21
M.Albrighton    21
S.Given            18
C.Herd            16

A lot of people haven't seen this and are complaining all over Facebook so just thought I'd point it out!!

I personally think he is the deserving winner of the award, yet I'm surprised Weimann got the Young Player award over Herd. Saying that, Herd is 23, so not sure if he qualifies.
