While there were some fans who wanted rid of Houllier, too, there were also a number who wanted to see what he could do with a full pre-season and players more suited to the way he wanted the team to play.

I don't think there are too many who wants to see what McLeish can do if he is given another season.

If fans are given something to cheer about, they will no doubt lay off the manager's back. However, if they keep producing the turgid performances they have done all season (even before the mass of injuries), then the club can only expect the fans to either:
1. Support the team during the game and give the manager stick at the end if the performance warrants it
2. Vent their frustrations at the players during the dire performance
3. Not turn up at all

How dare he..? The fat fuck. He's lucky he's not on the pitch suffering this humiliation. Do us a favour Dunne... take your impending transfer fee and head off to the next cash cow. We don't want you... we don't need you. Our defence was worse when you were in it.

no point dissecting everything. He's saying that we need to pull together right now and as much as all of us now are united in wanting McLeish gone, we also want the club to stay up. That has to be the priority and once that is looked after, hopefully the rest looks after itself and we are talking about his possible replacement in May.

He'll be gone soon.  As will the object of his affection, hopefully.

I'm trying to work out a joke about Dunne wanting his meal ticket to survive, but am failing miserably.

I'd take him back, and its not nostalgia.

Last year was certainly difficult, but there was a vision. For me it felt like a year of transition, but there was a feeling that we were working towards something.

Same for me.

I was trying to be more subtle and work on "Villa fans urge Dunne to stop being a fat, trouble making fecker and actually start earning the small fortune he is paid each week."

Which I think is quite catchy actually.

How many times have Villa fans been criticised either directly or indirectly by representatives of the club this season?

I personally wasn't a fan of Houllier, but in hindsight he would probably have made some much needed changes last summer.  I think the likes of Dunne, Warnock and Ireland would have definitely been moved on and we may have seen more foreign arrivals like Makoun.
