I heard it. He said he'd keep McLown on until the end of the season (thats relegation then) and that we didn't want him because he came from Blues. No mention of dour football.

Well said Quick Jar McGrath re Southgate, the guy has been unfairly demonised for being guilty of getting fed up with Doug's lack of ambition. The only difference between him and most of us at the time was that he could walk away, and he did. And I don't blame him.
Ugo and Southgate were both excellent players, and after McGrath probably our best defenders of the last 20 years. Both were better than either Mellberg or Laursen in my opinion.
Southgate was a quality player, and I don't really hold any animosity towards him.

Ugo was a big strong stopper without much class about his play, so is the equivalent of Collins for me, but probably a bit better. I'd say there's very little between Southgate and Mellberg. But Laursen is the best we've had since McGrath.
