Who ever wrote that is a c***.  The Owner and Manager deserve to go down but we don't.
Did you even read the article ?
I think it's spot on and the letter that follows as a reply from 'danceoftheshamen'sums up what I feel exactly.

Cant argue too much with the Article or the comment by 'danceoftheshamen'not sure what planet Fergal Bents on

I disagree.  We often argue on these pages about what has gone wrong with football, inflated wages, incredible transfer prices, no loyalty.  What Villa have done (albeit in clumsy at best, way) is to do it a different way.  Nuture and develop from within.  Our kids.  Players that we have trained up from early talent spotting.  Players that understand what it is to play for Villa, not just who pays the highest wage, or players that jump ship to move up themselves.  Pretty much the only team in that league that are doing it this way, and it may not be successful.  But my argument is that the other fucking 19 teams should just get fucked off into the Championship for being fuckers.  Arrgh, this post was supposed to be all eloquent, but those two minutes of madness last night are still pissing me off

That article was spot on. It's sad that we have become the team that all other fans hope get relagated.

I think that's what he's saying Fergal.
I've supported and defended AMcL and Randy all season and remained pretty optimistic, but even I'm begining to have serious doubts now.
It can't be all laid at the feet of McLeish though, I honestly believe, now, that he was handed a poisoned chalis!!

On a slightly different angle, ask any NUFC fans about the current situation at VP and they'll say "Good riddance" after we danced over their grave in 2009.
Ask Arsenal fans about Villa, and they'll say that we have been the worst footballing team at the Emirates this season.
Ask any reasonalby-sensible Bluenoses (there are a few, I guess) about things in B6 and they'll say: "yep; saw that last season".

If we take the drop it's becuase the team / squad / management / owner deserve it.

Which doesn't help us, I appreciate.

This is the fundamental problem with the choice of manager.  what we should be doing is as you describe.  What we're actually doing is developing players to play 1 style of football, as an ethos all through the club up until the first team.  At which point we want them to be defensive hoofball specialist who defend resolutely and snatch the odd goal on the break.  I love the idea of 15 of our 25 squad being players we've nurtured since their early teens, but for it to work you need a shared vision through all levels of how the game should be played, without that we're just creating players with unfulfilled potential to sell on and see blossom elsewhere.

Ask Arsenal fans about Villa, and they'll say that we have been the worst footballing team at the Emirates this season.

We played the perfect first half against them in January
Those two penalties were gimmes for them to get back into the game.
I refuse to think about the league game last month.

I don't agree with this article.

The fact is that Lerner has invested too much money, and has very little to show for it. He has invested unsustainably, and I don't have any problem with him scaling this back. However, to be successful on a modest budget you need a strategy, and you need talented people making the decisions. I think Lerner has ambition, but just doesn't have a clue how to go about achieving it.

The analogy of 'a hotel shutting down for the winter and putting a skeleton staff in charge' doesn't fit with McLeish being the 20th highest paid manager is World football, and BCFC being well compensated for him being taken off there hands. Despite what everyone else was saying at the time, Lerner thought he was getting the right man for the job. He was wrong.

I agree with all of that. Lerner is doing  nothing that Ashley is not doing at Newcastle, and Kenwright at Everton. Spurs £50m leap in wages is unsustainable, watch the exit door if they dont make the CL.

I don't give a shit about any article.  Relegation is not the answer for anything.  Do people not think we as fans have been punished enough?  Having put up with the idiots in charge at Villa.  Yes, relegation might hit Randy in the pocket but it hits the fans even harder.  We'll be here forever, Randy won't.

Why?

Which fans do 'deserve' to go down? I can't see why one set of supporters would deserve their team get relegated any more or less than any other.

It could be argued that seeing as we seem to be deserting en masse and are moaning like buggery rather than getting behind the players for one last push that we deserve to go down more than fans of some other clubs.
In general no one should really feel sorry for fans of relegated teams, relegation happens, it's part of the game we love. I feel for fans of teams who go out of business or are dumped down the leagues because of financial mismanagement by owners.

It looks increasingly likely that that's what's about to happen to us.

We had a plus 30k gate against Bolton and the Holte End got behind the team. What goes on here normally bears no resemblance to what goes on inside Villa Park and I think, given the circumstances, the fans have given their all and will continue to do so for the last three games. In many ways, being away could play into our favour as the pressure of Villa Park will be reduced.

If we get over the line then we can begin to pick up the pieces, but you’re right that we need to get over the line first by supporting the team. If we don’t do that, then a catastrophe will befall the club.

Maybe this comment deserves it's own thread but has anyone noticed what is happening at Chester? A few years ago they were getting gates of around 350 as they slipped unnoticed out of the Football League. Now they are leading their league with almost record points and getting gates of 3,500. They lookbas if they are on the way back. Not suggesting thatvwevshould drop that low but maybe a dose of humility and a huge clear out will do us good. Wouldn't it be great to goto matches expecting a victory compared to what's happening now?
