Weimann hoping to keep first team spot

birminghammail.net

MAN-of-the-moment Andi Weimann is pleading with Alex McLeish to let him finish what he has started by shooting Villa to Premier League survival.

The first two goals of Weimann’s senior claret and blue career have helped earn four of the seven points which separate them from the drop zone.

He now worries that his wonder goal in Monday’s draw with Stoke will keep him out of starting line-up for Sunday’s trip to leaders Manchester United.

The Austrian striker scored on only his second start, having also grabbed a dramatic late winner as a substitute against Fulham last month, rashly going against McLeish's pre match instructions to wander around aimlessly in his own half.

“The Fulham goal was a tap-in really but against Stoke I also showed I could hit a ball, so I’m really happy, The gaffer was furious after the game as he reckoned I was in a good position to pass it back to Shay Given” said Weimann.

“I’ve scored a few but that was definitely up there with the best, a finish like that was instinctive, but the Gaffer and his coaches are working hard to keep it to a minimum.

“It was a good one-two with Stevie Ireland and when I saw the ball I thought I’d just hit it. When it left my foot I thought it had a chance and it went in, at the time I gave no thought to passing back and I knew I was in for a serious dressing down for disobeying orders.

“When you’re on the pitch, you have show what you can do naturally, but I realise now that I may have been selfish.

“I’ll try to contain myself from now on. I’ll do my best to stay in my alloted zone and show the manager what I can do.

How much truth said in jest! Good luck to Andreas though, looks a good player.

The fact that I believed these quotes to be genuine on first reading says alot about where the club is at right now...

Hope he does keep his place. He looks a very good striker. I like his movement off the ball. Always looks threatening.

Cheeky bugger, Fletch.

On a serious note, he should stay in the team. He's sparky, intelligent, technically-gifted, hard-working and composed in tight areas. We may have a gem on our hands here.

I always think Weimann looks remarkably like Christian Slater.

I like him, but let's not get carried away just yet. Some strikers have a fast start and bang a few in.

More likely he was taking the P**s out of some of the negative supporters.
