What Formation suits us Best
« on: April 10, 2012, 10:32:33 AM »
With the players we have at our disposal, what formation would you like to see us play, the starting line up and why your formation will work...

(assume current availability i.e. injuries etc)

I will start:

I have always been a fan of 532 Formation with 2 wing backs...

The reason for this...

- 3 in front of the goalkeeper (as defensively we are poor at the min) , think Hutton & warnock and lichaj  would be better suited to the role and it would provide more cover for the mistakes they make

- Our midfield doesn't boss the game about so we can focus more on the counter attack and breaks with pace

- I don't like sticking 1 up front either as it encourages long ball...

-------------------Given-------------------

--------Cueller---Collins---Baker-------
Hutton-----------------------------Lichaj
------Bannan--Ireland--Nzogbia------
---------Wiemann--Agbonlahor--------

That midfield would be easier to penetrate than Katie Price.

4-3-3 for me (as I've been harping on about for years). Probably pick a midfield of Gardner, Herd and Ireland or Bannan, Gardner and Ireland, depending on whether or not you drop Hutton and Warnock and go for Herd at right back (Lichaj left). Gabby and Zog wide with Weimann as the designated striker, though if Albrighton was fit I'd get him in instead of Gabby (who's been shocking).

We are too lightweight in midfield. The answer to that shouldn't be an extra defender.  I think the 4-5-1/4-3-3 with pace on the counter attack is the best option for us given the players we've got. Can't understand the pedestrian clueless stuff we have been playing this season. There's no strategy to anything we do anymore. Bannan hasn't enough bite for a midfield that includes Ireland. That's my view.

lol

I didnt see our midfield put up much  penetration prevention yesterday against a stoke that didn't want to even penetrate it!

So i think absorb the pressure and counter, MON stylee!

I wasnt a MON fan but I am even less of a big eck fan!

With our fitness issues at the minute id go with

Given
Lichaj Cuellar Collins Baker
           Herd Gardner
Albrighton Ireland Nzogbia
                Gabby.

Maybe Weimann for Gab,or Bannan for Albrighton, not too much to play with really.

Given
Lichaj - Cuellar - Collins - Warnock
Bannan - Herd - Ireland - Albrighton
Weimann - Gabby

Still a bit open, and relies on Ireland getting through a fair bit of work. But I'd go with that for Sunderland.

Clark being back is a big boost.

If he is fit and ready to go, I would go with

Given

Lichaz Cuellar Collins Warnock

           Clark    Herd

Albrighton    Ireland   NZogbia

               Weimann
