So what does a fan do?
« on: March 24, 2012, 09:18:42 PM »
Things are spiralling out of control, many fans (me included) want to do something positive.
What is the middle-road between blind (naive) optimism, acceptance of our dire fate or acting in a way that damages the club we love.

What can we (the fans who go to VP) "do"?

Write to the Chairman, tell him that you have had enough, do it succintly, just state the facts.

You may as well write to Father Christmas for all the good it would do.

I suppose I should look at when a team's supporters have actually had an effect.

Any examples apart from the "supporting them through thick and thin and coming through" types eg Brighton?

Bums on seats are the only things they understand. I'm half hoping my nephew says he doesn't want to renew next year, but if he's still keen I'll be there.

So is it better to do something that will have no effect or do nothing as it will have no effect?

This is am honest question - I am not used to feeling so bloody helpless!

Do what we did last season, we were in a similar position and someone started a 'bring a flag/scarf' initiative for the game at home to Newcastle, with the intention of creating a much needed positive atmosphere and a sea of claret and blue - just to get behind the players for once really. I was in the Upper Holte that day and I can tell you that we got over 37,000 in and created a really good, passionate atmosphere, and most importantly got behind the team.

The result?

We won 1-0, and moved a vital 5 points clear of the bottom 3, and had a decent end to the season. It was regarded as our 'turn around' game and you occasionally see that mentioned on here, more so recently. So why not do a similar thing, perhaps for the Chelsea game? Or the Stoke game being as that's more 'win-able', I don't know - though what I do know is that we have to start getting behind this team, giving them some confidence, or we're going to find ourselves in some real brown sticky stuff.
