A FOOTBALL fan who streaked across Villa Park for a £100 bet has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for two years.

Sam Gorman, 22, ran on to the pitch during a Premier League match with Manchester City in trainers, socks and “nothing else”, city magistrates were told.

But the February 12 streak proved costly.

He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register after admitting indecent exposure and going on to the playing area of a football ground.

Gorman, of Nottingdale Close, Droitwich, Worcester, was also sentenced to an 18- month community order and ordered to pay £145 costs.

After the hearing the shame-faced streaker revealed that it was not the first time he had shed his clothes during a sporting event.

Unemployed Gorman said: “I’ve also done it at a cricket match in Droitwich, when I jumped on the umpire’s back.

‘‘I’m actually a Baggies fan and this was the first time I had been to a football match. I went for the day out.

‘‘My mate wanted me to do the streak earlier, but I wanted to see a bit of the game.”

His friend Louis Robinson had placed the cheeky bet. He said: “It was the 75th minute and Shay Given was taking a goal kick.

‘‘I bet him £100 to do a streak. He was going to run up to Mario Balotelli and give him some stick but Balotelli was not playing.

‘‘He thought he would still do it anyway. The players looked absolutely disgusted.

‘‘He’s not had the £100 but he’s had a couple of good nights out on it!

‘He was like a celebrity down Broad Street.”

Jonathan Purser, prosecuting, said an officer at the match heard a cheer from the Doug Ellis Stand at 5.30pm and saw Gorman running on the pitch from the Holte End.

“You could clearly see his genitals,’’ said Mr Purser.

‘‘He was carrying a T-shirt and trousers in his hand.”

Mr Purser said when stewards went to intercept him, Gorman changed direction – but he was eventually detained and escorted off the pitch.

Mumtaz Mirza, defending, said “He thought of the money and not of the consequences of his actions.

‘‘He accepts it was a foolish act. It was complete stupidity and he is ashamed.

‘‘He has let his family down.”

So he's a Boggy and has never been to a football match before going to Villa vs Man City...?
That figures. Twat.

Placing him on the sex offenders' register seems a bit harsh for a joke that was at best foolish and at worst inappropriate. Strikes me as someone who needs to do some growing up. Even for a Tesco Bag

I agree. Sex offenders register for that is ludicrous, but I bet the Daily Mail thinks it is too lenient.

It does seem harsh, but he has got previous.
He seems a bit simple, so I doubt he'll learn his lesson.

Too much information !

Seriously though, being placed on the Sex Offenders Register is ridiculous. Its not a case of it being too harsh but a completely inappropriate response unless there are other matters involved in his case we do not know about.
I despair that magistates are so out of touch that they cannot see the difference between what is one of the most boring tiresome things that can happen at a sporting event, and some of the dangerous and odious things which are around which was the reason for the setting up of the Sex Offenders Register in the first place.

Sounds like a complete twat but putting him on the sex offenders register is a bit harsh.

Seems fair enough to me.

I'd place all Albion fans on the Sex Offenders register, dirty perverts

On the sex offenders register for that is a bit steep.
What's next? Putting those strippergram people on the register every time they go to work?

On second thoughts, the sex offenders register is too good for them. I'd force all Albion fans to walk around town in blue and white striped shirts to warn the public that they are potential molesters of children. Then I'd birch them and gas them like badgers

He has publically exposed himself in view of adults and more importantly children - so sad to say that he committed a sexual crime in the eyes of the law

And he does come across as being not the sharpest pencil in the box

A bit harsh - If it were me I would appeal - but then again if it were me I wouldn't have done it in the first place

A fine and/or community service, yes. However the putting him on the Sex Offenders Register doesn't seem right to me. It was hardly a sexual act.
