Doug showing a bit of anonymity,ha ha that would be a first. He is the only chairman i can remember seeing being pictured on any big occasion such as a major signing . He just craves the publicity

I know it's good that he makes these donations, but how about a bit of anonymity for a change?

www.birminghammail.net/news/top-stories/2012/03/08/former-aston-villa-chairman-sir-doug-ellis-says-birmingham-reseachers-saved-his-life-97319-30484525/

You weren't really expecting him to change now were you Dave? He's almost the big 90 and as set in his ways as one could be. This is who he is. He has done a lot of good with a ton of publicity to announce thrown in for good measure.

Whats the problem - hes doing some good, he is pictured in a Villa tie, it can only put the club in a good light. So what if he likes a bit of publicity if thats his thing.

He is a good man who helped to save our club in the late 60s. And he got Pele to VP in the dark ages (power cuts)

Well done Sir Doug. He won't change and lloves to be in the limelight but at least he is doing some good with his millions.

Never his greatest fan but he is helping publicise donating to projects across the city, something I'd imagine is not top of the list of charitable causes. There is probably no other sector that has so much competition and despite the number of charities out there, it doesn't mean people give more money. All charitable organisations are fighting for the same pound.

Whether intentionally or not, he is promoting educational facilities within the city, even if it in reality is just having a university common room named after him. I'd much prefer to see money made from the Villa re-invested within the region on this type of project than some donkey sanctuary in Dorset.

Of course he loves the publicity, he always has but in this case I'm not going to beat him with a stick, as one of the comments made in that article says, he could be hiding his money off shore and avoiding taxes but he follows instead a long tradition of benefactors that the city of Birmingham has had since the Victorian days.
