Big 'Eck in the USA
« on: February 15, 2012, 09:10:16 AM »
SkySports are reporting that McLeish has flown to American to have talks with Randy Lerner. Can't say I'm not happy with this lets just hope they do something productive that benefits the club.

article here: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11677/7522579/?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=twitterfeed_AstonVilla

"Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has flown to America to hold talks with his Cleveland Browns counterpart Pat Shurmur.

NFL side The Browns are also owned by Villa supremo Randy Lerner, and he has organised the link-up between his two coaches.

McLeish and Shurmur will hold talks and compare notes on things such as scouting, rehab and training

McLeish's assistant Peter Grant, fitness coach Adrian Lamb, Dr Ian McGuinness and performance analyst Patrick Riley have also made the trip.

Chief executive Paul Faulkner confirmed: "'When the fixture schedule allows for a break, such as this upcoming weekend, some managers may take time off to refresh ahead of the busy run to follow.

"Not for Alex. He is keen to do everything he can to push Villa forward.

"Alex is always looking for any advantage he can get and he felt this was an ideal opportunity to exchange ideas with his American counterparts at the Browns.""

It sounds a bit cringeworthy.

It sounds like a desperate (and totally inept) CE justifying a truly shoddy manager.

So were going to start chucking the ball forward instead of hoofing it forward ? Another absolutely clueless decision from the board

First meeting will be with their kicker to get any tips for Hutton,Collins and Warnock on gaining extra yardage on their hoofs.

Could get some interesting angles on fitness and player psychology but surely nothing on scouting - no such thing in American Football with the college system and the NFL draft and the way it's formulated.

There's an element of damned if you do, damned if you don't about this but I would have thought spending a few days with a relevant club abroad - a Dutch side, say, using Numan's contacts, would have been more insightful.

I'm glad Alex has gone to learn a few things from one of the most awful teams in the NFL. :)
Perhaps this is just a smokescreen for Randy to get all his staff in front of his desk before pulling a lever and dropping them into a Rancor pit.

Thank God they didn't refer to it as a 'Workshop'.

I can also imagine there will be a lot of positive, pro-active, road mapping talk that will leave AM looking somewhat perplexed.

They'll be pushing the envelope with all their blue sky thinking.

Most of his stay there will be spent discussing who has made the biggest balls ups with their respective teams.

Tony Robbins is goig to be there too. They're going to learn power stances and how to walk over hot coals.

AM obviously needs some time off. Since randy is no where to be seen here in the uk. It's a chance for McLeish to get a week off, have a meeting with the boss and the PR can spin it into some sort of exercise that will benefit the club.
