And now for some good news , Villa Res win again ! .
« on: February 08, 2012, 11:33:34 AM »

Thought I,d bring a glimmer of sunshine into an otherwise gloomy week where doom mongers abound and despondency fills these pages .
This is from the Mail ...for a more comprehensive report see:

Interesting to note on the Official Web Site report that the Full Back s, Steven s & Lichaj switched left to right respectively for the 2nd half with  much sucess .......Godzvilla!

Villa Res 3 Fulham Res 0
Aston Villa reserves triumph against Fulham
Feb 8 2012 .
Twofine sides fought hard to be top dogs but sheer class ensured Villa took an important step towards another title.

Fulham arrived unbeaten in their previous five games, including three victories, but they were unable to stem the tide of Villa attacks, which brought deserved goals for Gary Gardner, Graham Burke and Samir Carruthers, who were all outstanding in an excellent overall display.

Boss Alex McLeish was at Bodymoor Heath to watch Villa’s talented young side perform not only with skill but strong endeavour right from the outset.

And the margin of victory could have been greater, with the Cottagers’ goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi having a terrific game.

That Kevin MacDonald’s men saw off a worthy challenge from one of their closest rivals was testimony to their commitment, which saw them increasingly get on top.

Villa now have a three-point lead over neighbours West Brom, who will be looking to level things up next Tuesday when they take on Norwich behind closed doors at their training ground.

That would set up a thrilling clash on February 21 when Bodymoor Heath will again be the scene for a Villa v Albion showdown.

VILLA (4-4-2): Barrett; Lichaj, Williams, Baker, Stevens; Carruthers, Gardner (Cameron 59), Bannan (Caira 89), Johnson; Burke (Drennan 77), Weimann. Subs: Nelson-Addy, Watkins.

Sounds like Villa V West Brom on 21st Feb would be worth seeing.

I think boss Alex McLeish was there to look at options for the left back position, hence Stevens and Lichaj swapping at half-time!?

The Villa Facebook site and website which provide such reports as these are littered with people saying 'play all the reserves on Sunday McLeish'.
There we are then. Let McLeish fall for the trick which was one of the final nails in O'Neill's coffin.
