To be honest, if a load of us can't remember 2008 in Missing Men, then 2006 is out of the memory!

I agree with all those who think that the 25th, with the presentation of the players, the scarves, the gala dinner and all the razzmatazz, was a very special event and doesn't need to be repeated just 5 years later. This has nothing to do with the fact that the optimism of 2007 has disappeared but rather with the fact that you cheapen an occasion if you try to celebrate it too often. I would, however, mark the anniversary by inviting some of the players onto the pitch, not the whole lot but not too few either. Make it significant but not over the top.

25 has a nice ring to it. 30 not so much. I think it can be done a bit more subtlly than the last one. An anniversary kit design or something similar might be nice next year. It's a mark of respect to give a nod the greatest achievement in the club's every few years but then do something special again at 50.

ps. off course I hope that by then we'll have won it again!

Ahaha! What a daft thing to get banned for.

Despite Iago's continued ranting all over the discussion board, I think he/she has a point. The mood is all wrong, while we felt we were on the cusp of big change back in 2006, currently it feels, for me at least, as if we are as far away as ever from success.

But should that be a reason for not celebrating? I don't think we should make too much of it because it's been done to death already, but saying we should keep quiet because the team aren't doing as well as they were seems wrong.

Not in the same manner as 2007. For various reasons - 25th anniversary, Doug gone, hope and optimism were high, board were looking ambitious and this was a glimpse of the prize that we could attain under new management at the top - it was fitting that the 1982 squad were honoured in the way they were back then. Now it ought to be something more low-key, I dunno, an evening at the Holte Suite or something, with the players coming onto the pitch at half time during the next match. Presently, for me, a huge celebration like 2007 would feel like we were actually just existing on memories and not much else.

Obviously all the above is only my perception of the current state of affairs, but it wouldn't feel right celebrating that win in such a big way when things seem to be so uninspiring from the top down at the Villa right now.

19 people, 19 games is a great idea.

They should definitely do something but nothing as grand as the Sheffield United game. The 25th anniversary was much more significant as a number IMO and in the mood around the club.

I get a bit embarassed, as a number of non-Villa fans I know have remarked that we always seem to be going on about the European Cup win (in a way that eg Forest don't). I feel similarly about England and '66 (or the world wars!)

But then perhaps I'm just a mard-arse

50?! They'll all be dead by then, some us too.

Was anything done this year to mark the 30th anniversary of the league success?

Nothing's ever been done to mark it except for the AVISA 20th anniversary bash.

May not be the right place for this Dave, but, what are the details for the McGregor event? Still the 20th? Time?

When's the next anniversary of Doug going? Can't we have a bit bunting out for that.

2pm at St Mary's. There's a separate tread.
