I think the Petrov 'link' is just an absolute shot in the dark. Given our midfield options, we simply can't sell him in January, unless we have a couple of top-class players coming in. Petrov has played pretty well this season and now, without Jenas to call on, we have a real lack of experience in midfield.

Ireland appears to be going absolutely nowhere with us, though I'm not sure who would take him; Cuellar simply isn't being used and with six months remaining on his deal I think he'll the player to leave.

Petrov does not have 18 months left on his contract. He is contracted until the summer and Villa have an extra year option on him. However Stan has been told that Villa will not be taking up this option so he will be leaving in the summer if not before.

Don't shoot the messenger but I was told this on Saturday.

Would be sorry to see Stan go but he can't last 90 mins these days. All of MON's players will be gone within 18 months, that in itself doesn't concern me but who we replace them with does?

Petrov was breaking forward after 91 minutes on Saturday to set up Albrighton's shot.

He's hardly Michael Essien, but this tiredness thing is a bit of a myth that's snowballed.

If thats the case i'm not surprised. He's been fading for 3 seasons. I just hope they intend to spend a bit of money replacing him because at his best he was a very important part of the team

He's clearly been given license to roam forward and let Herd do more of the donkey work. Most people would agree his legs looked gone during the latter parts of games over the past couple of seasons but he's had a bit of a lease of new life in the role McLeish has given him.

Why would I shoot the messenger, Fuse? I don't think I said Petrov had 18 months on his contract, but did say I can't see him leaving in January... the summer, absolutely. The summer's a different ball game, hopefully we'll be moving on one or two more by then.

Ah didn't know that Fuse.

Can see him going in the summer then.

Just read on our forum that we are being linked with a £5m move for James Collins in the transfer window! The OP has not given a source, so don't know if its bull or not. Think we have more serious issues to address in other positions than centre half to be honest!

Probably just the papers selling rumours!  :-\

I honestly don't think we can afford to let Petrov go in January. We'll be left with no midfield experience whatsoever.

Be it in the summer or January, replacing Petrov in our side won't be cheap, so will Randy spend the money to do it properly?  I have my doubts!
