Heroes face exit in January
« on: December 10, 2011, 11:17:55 AM »
No, not the FAC - although it's a possibility.

The Daily Male lists the three top departures from VP in the January sales - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2072324/Aston-Villa-manager-Alex-McLeish-plans-clear-captain-Stilyan-Petrov-heading-list.html - with Cuellar, Ireland and Petrov all listed.

May be MON can be persuaded to take a 3-for-2 deal in return for £20m? Nope, thought not.

I won't be sorry to see Ireland go. He's had plenty of chances.

I would expect Ireland to be closer to the first team now with Jenas out for the season..

Petrov out - Guthrie in
Ireland out - Gibson in
Cuellar out - Gabbidon in as defence back up .

These will be the calibre of players ...

I'd rather we don't bother wasting our money on the likes of Guthrie and Gibson and just play Gardner.

"Heroes"?
When Hugh Cornwell sung "Whatever Happened to the Heroes?" he was probably kidding around.

"Journeymen" wouldn't fit in the headline, and they baulked at using the usual "Aces".

Sigh with relief whilst I like and respect Petrov he's no hero as for Ireland he's been the worst signing since Eric double d - I was fearing Gabby would be sold when I saw the title. Shame to let Carlos go he's the best defender at the club.

Gardner will be in the first XI by February - but his first name will be Craig.

meh. Considering the quality of players we've let go in the last 2 years, its hardly a major worry seeing them 3 join the exit. Offer them to MON for his "Barcelona" project

I was worried when when I first saw heroes , then I thought who is a hero at Villa , who has earned that .

I like Cuellar and Petrov and would be sorry to see them go, but Ireland? He's done so little he won't be missed in the slightest.

In terms of who AM sees as midfielders, the idea that he would get rid of Ireland and Petrov ahead of Heskey is disconcerting.

Disconcerting? It's frightening.
