Given out is not our problem. Guzan will be fine it's the others.

A fair few of the goals we have conceded appear to have been a result of poor communication (See spurs 2nd goal for example).  When various keeper were being touted around in the summer one of the criticisms of Given was that he did not organise his defence or command his area properly.  Maybe, just maybe the louder Guzan might help encourage our motley crew to play as a better unit.

How's that for unjustified optimism?

Guzan did everything asked of him on Saturday, if he continues like that he'll be fine.

Fortunately it won't make a difference -  we'll lose the matches with or without him.

That's the spirit!

Superb.  Thanks, C&D.
Still laughing!

I thought Guzan was one of our better players on Saturday [I realise that's not exactly a ringing endorsement].

I have every faith in Brad Guzan.

I don't. Apart from his penalty-saving prowess he did very little to inspire me the other season. Please prove me wrong, Brad Jnr.
Did you miss the first 120 minutes of the Sunderland cup match?

He's had one atrocious game, the 6-4 game against Blackburn. Other than that, he's done very little wrong at any point.

I agree. I reckon that he's not really been given a fair crack yet and people have been too quick to write him off based on that very limited exposure. We'll definitely know if he'll cut the mustard after this month, as with our fixtures and defence he'll be seeing a lot of use.

I read the thread title and I have to say that, before I realised it was about Shay, my first thought was that some hapless cricket team had met the umpire from hell.

IT will be interesting to see us from set pieces to see if he comes from his line more than Shay or Friedel.

Yes, I did miss it. Seriously, how did he do?
Brilliant. From what I remember anyway.

As I said, I can't remember much he has done wrong apart from the Blackburn horror show.

I thought it was Blackburn Horror Shows in plural as he seemed to struggle in the other cup games he played against them. It depends if he has learnt how to deal with crosses under pressure whether he will do well. Most of the rest of his game was quite good.

I remember a relatively comfortable 3-1 win and the semi final first leg where he could have spent most of the game asleep in the six yard box.

One goal conceded in the other 180 minutes isn't too bad.

He's a bit dodgy with crosses, but otherwise a fine stopper with good reflexes.

It might be all the cup matches running into one that I was getting confused in the cup matches although I though their one in the 2010 match was his mistake against Kalinic. The other one I'm thinking off where he was off his game was the Sparta Prague match, but then not many of the defence came out of that with glory. As that was one of the last matches we saw him in competitively, you can understand the apprehension. How well did he do on loan?

Don't worry it was said tongue-in-cheek (sort of)

I tend to agree. if anyone has long term experience of dealing with those two plodders in front of him then its brad jnr
