I had a similar thought to Greg - another forward.

Aside from that, I can't think of a single signing from a French club that's come off for us. From Jean II through to Mattheiu Berson. Even Didier Six's loan from Mulhouse back in the eighties only excited for about three or four games in total.

Priority #1: Centre Back
Priority #2: Full back

...

and if we get to a third priority then maybe - just maybe - we'd look at the attack. But only after removing Ireland, Heskey, Collins and  - unlikely in the extreme - Hutton.

And funding? - the sale of Bent of course; which would appear to be two steps back to make one forwards.

End of.

You'd imagine we could pay for this guy with the interest from the money we raised from sales in the summer!

I've seen him play before for Sporting and he looked decent so I don't know what happened to his career really. We could even be getting him on the cheap by the sounds of it.

Never heard of him but if Greg is against it the chances are it's a good move.

I don't know if I heard this correctly as I was doing stuff around the house but I thought I heard SSN reporter for the north east David Craig allude to the fact that reports in the papers up there are suggesting that a Sunderland bid for Darren Bent could be imminent.  As I say I'm not sure I heard correctly.  Ducks for cover.

Hmm.....manager-less Sunderland bidding what would have to be £20m+ for a player who pissed them and their fans off big-time only a season ago. I can't see it personally..

Poor stats and sound more like an Ireland. Can we carry more passengers in our squad?

Priority is to change the tactical mindset of the manager so that we play more attacking football. If we buy Messi and Ronaldo in the next window but don't get the ball to them it won't make a difference to our results. Ok, I'm stretching a bit as they might just get pissed off and take the ball on a 80yd mazy run and score....

Point being, AM needs to be comfortable with the players he has, and morst importantly realise that scoring goals is much more fun that trying to shut teams down all game. We have two of the best strikers in the PL up front. Find a way with what you have got to get them the ball in the box as often as possible from every conceivable position on the pitch. This player looks exciting (in the limited clips that are available, but then you could make one of Harweood or Heskey if you only had 3 minutes), but it won't make a difference if our set up doesn't allow him or the other creative players in the team to express themselves.

Bloody hell, there could be some truth to this rumour. He's written on his Facebook page that he's on his way to Birmingham. The President of the Players Union has just been interviewed on TV about the story, I think there must be some problem with the player and Sporting after UEFA refused to accept his transfer to Nice, claiming it was after the deadline. The value in the summer was €4.5m.

Since then he's neither played for Sporting or Nice. It appears he'll be on his way to B6 in the next week or two.
