Gwent Lions get flag ripped apart by Villa Fans.

On Sunday at Swansea some fucking numpties ripped up this supporters club flag because it had a Welsh Dragon on it (also had reference to Villa on it) If anyone knows who it was have a word. There's also a Facebook campaign to get it replaced.

I travel with the Gwent Lions and I know they're very grateful already for the great support from fellow Lions clubs and individual Villa fans after what happened. It was mindless (a couple of mouthbreathers at most) and made worse because  it happened only a few minutes after everyone had impeccably observed the minute's silence/applause for Gary Speed and I know those Welsh members on the bus had been in some shock after hearing the news earlier. There was some equally mindless EDL-style exchange about Villa being a club "for the English". The same flag had been behind Ken McNaught when he visited the Gwent Lions at a social night a week or so back. I'd like to see someone try that argument with him.

I'm guessing this is what clampy mentioned the other day and you can't comment on it really because its very very hard to even rationalise such stupidity. I had four of them close to me at the game on Saturday (we were right on the dividing barrier from the Swansea fans). The four had far more interested in abusing and gesturing at the Swansea fans than they did in watching the game.

I don't know who they were, but they were on the end of our row about 6-7 seats away next to the gang way, so i'm happy to give whoever my seat and block number so they can work it out from that if they wish.

Personally, i would'nt bother trying to track them down, they're not worth it. Maybe an invite to the Welsh lads concerned to a Villa game with their new flag would be a nice gesture.

Aston Villa have been brilliant in all honesty, with the chief exec getting in touch with the Gwent Lions with reassuring words and an offer to buy a new flag and an invitation around the Swansea home game. The response from the club and 99.9% of Villa fans is what you'd expect.
