We lack bite in central midfield, no question. We need a Townsend or a Boateng.

At the moment I'd settle for a Reo-Coker

Although I've seen very little of Gardner the younger yet, I understand he's more of an attacking midfielder, which is our main problem as most of our current midfield are also better going forward.  I'd einclude Delph in that even though he's been asked to sit more, which is at least part of why I don't think we've seen the best of him.  Petrov is the only one who's suited to a more defensive midfield role, but there are some issues with his game and it's a lot to ask him to hold the midfield together on his own.  I'd be looking to get Jenas in the side and give him some strict instructions to sit and/or give Clark a try in midfield.  Delph can then fight it out with the other players for one of the 2/3 more attacking midfield slots.

I'd be tempeted to play Clark as sweeper with Bannan + Ireland/Jenas + Marco/Zog in front.  At home I'd play Bent + Gabby but away stick only one up front and add one more in the middle.   I'd use Gardner as a sub.  Petrov should be retired (like two years ago) and Delph sent for a spell in the reserves where they can teach him how to pass.

Problem is that our midfield is slow, Heskey? Its like playing with ten men, Delph, Looks slow, Petrov say no more, N'zogbia is much slower than I thought. Need some speed in there again

Bugger me it will be Xmas before he's match fit

Agree with most of what's been said, far too slow and pedestrian (bar gabby). As long as AM continues to play Ivanhoe (above Bannan FFS) in midfield we are never going to do anything

call me old fashioned but i like a winger/wide midfielder to hog the touchline.

Reo-Coker was Ok, but in a 4-4-2 with Petrov, i'd say No, a big No. In a middle 3 with Petrov and Bannan or Ireland then yes, but, as he's gone.... who gives a flying fuck?

Gardner couldn't do any worse than Delph surely? He's piss poor.

Sorry to say it but 14 months on the central midfield area has yet to recover from Milner leaving.
