Anyone been watching the rugby and the scoring system awarded for tries, and penalty goals scored?
Being as Football did give birth to Rugby, maybe its time for its parent game to take a liitle something back. And that thing being its point scoring system.

Think about it; With all the controversy over players being awarded penalties for diving in the box which is influencing the outcomes of football matches, and is ruining the beautiful game as a whole; isnt it time something was done to try and rid us and football of this scourge of diving. Or should i say cheating?

Im sure any footy fan, who is still in love with this great game will be nodding their head in agreement right now, and would welcome anything (within reason) that would preserve the integrity of this game.
So how about this for an idea?
How about instead of a single goal being awarded when a goal was scored, we took a leaf from the game of Rugby and awarded points instead. For example,  if a goal was scored during normal play then any goal scored was awarded lets say... 3pts. And if any penalty awarded was scored it was only awarded 1pt instead.

Imagine the situation.   You have a player in the box trying to set themself up for shot at goal who feels a mere brush of his marker/defender. Instead of easily going down for a penalty claim, he is encouraged to stay on his feet because the pay-off of scoring in open play is now that much greater than scoring from the penalty spot.

Must admit  Villa 6pts V 0 pts Wigan scorelines would take a bit of getting use to. But if by such a method it reduces the incidences of players trying to con the ref into awarding penalties, and encourages players into staying on their feet to try and score that extra 2pt, and better sportsmanship, where's the problem?   ;D

I'd personally prefer to just start deducting points for diving instead, that'd soon cut it out.

Football gave birth to rugby?
So two spherical balls had it off and produced an abnormal egg-shaped runt and threw it out of the footballing family?
Kinda makes sense.

Good in theory but too radical to ever come about. If we were to take anything from rugby I'd like it to be ref microphones so we can understand WTf is goin.on in their heads sometimes. Also the sin bin idea Is a good one

If anything, it was the other way around.

Nah! Just keep it as it is will be fine by me, might cause a few too many contraversies, goal difference if fine by me!

Surely this would just encourage more fouling in the box if it looks like the other team is going to score?

Just saw the an Italian rugby player this morning indulging in a little eye-gouging on his Irish opponent.

As usual it went unpunished by the referee.

But that's ok because they all call the referee "Sir".

We have nothing to learn from this nasty game.

In theory I like the idea of bonus points in the league for scoring more than a certain number of goals in a game but there are probably other drawbacks I haven't considered

Dont think it would cause any more fouling in the box than there is now if the referrees are doing their job properly.

May also rid the game of a few controversies too, and players diving around, rolling around like they'd been shot.
Its putting the emphasis on encouraging players to stand on their feet as the rewards for going to ground and getting a penalty is that much less.

Taking it seriously for a second If you're comparing it with rugby if there is foul play to stop a team scoring a try then a penalty try is given. So surely as some penalties in football are for the same reason it would mean there would have to be 1 and 3 point penalties? A penalty is such a different thing in rugby to football.

Again to be taken with a pinch of salt, you could take the idea of winning and losing bonus points with the idea of making games more attacking but thinking about it it could do the opposite.

Something football should take from rugby is stopping the clock when there's an injury or substitution. Would put an end to the dispute over time added on

When tempers flare, egg-chasers will often pile in and punch the fuck out of one of the star players opposite. The ref just wags his finger a bit and they all grunt and get ready to scrimmage. Expensive premier league tickets would be better value if our players said "fuck this handbags at ten paces/ imitating rutting stags with the forehead lark" and punched a few opponents' lights out from time to time.

If you were 2 points up with 5 minutes remaining, You would rugby tackle anyone about to take a shot in the knowledge that they could only score 1 point from the penalty
