I vividly remember in 1993 I'd left VP, walked to the Birchfield Road, boarded a crowded 51 bus to Walsall, queued through the Scott Arms as normal, then just as we crossed the M6 Manure scored that bloody shitty goal where Nigel Worthington stood on the line like a lemon. Still gets my goat now.
Hmmmm, 90 mins plus 15 mins of half time, 15:00hrs Kick Off...To be fair games tend to kick off a couple of minutes late, and say 1 min added at the end of the 1st half, and 3 at the end of the 2nd, that's 16:50....So either games used to last less time or your memory is playing tricks on you...or did half time only last 10 mins?
Sufficiently long in the tooth to remember, I recall that it was definitely a ten minute half time break in days of yore, added to the fact that any overtime was completely in the head of the ref, there being absolutely no indication of how much he may or may not have added on. Twenty to five was definitely the official end time of games (and they all used to be played on Saturdays and they all kicked off at 3pm, but maybe that's another thread).Nowadays games can last a good ten minutes longer than that, given the fact that even the 15 minute half time is sometimes slightly extended, and a heft eight minutes or so is quite common to be added on to the actual playing time (2 or 3 minutes at half time is not uncommon, and another four or even five in the second half depending on subs, injuries and timewasting, although I think the last one still needs to be more rigorously punished.
also why is it that there tends to be much more time added on at the end of the second half that at the end of the first half?
