A bit concerned that Albrighton's not starting, let's hope Big 'Eck knows what he's doing.

errr....wheres our midfield ?
agreed. No ball winner leaves us very open.

We don't actually have a ball winner at the club so it's hardly McLeish's fault for not picking him.

Delph ahead of Makoun is an interesting one though. Be interested to see how young Fab does today. He needs a run but he has shown what he can do in flashes.

With Albrighton's form it makes sense that he is taken out of the firing line but I'm not sure about Heskey being the beneficiary.
he could have bought one, at worst we could have got NRC to sign a new deal.

Very good show from Edgbaston where the boys are trying to get things wrapped up before kick-off time.

Not surprised at all that Delph starts - McLeish is always lauding him in his press conferences.

He's been poor for a long time though. If we put too much pressure on him and he continues to play poorly it will probably have a very bad effect upon him. Worse than being dropped. I'm not happy with Heskey coming in but who else could play there. Every area of our team that looks weak; the wings, the midfield, the defence... It is because of the absence of choice rather than the choice itself.

I could be remembering it incorrectly but I seem to remember Manky playing terribly towards the end of the season and us playing far better as a team when NRC replaced him.

Nonsense of a team selection that. But it's first game of the season so expect Heskey to score a hattrick in a 4-3 defeat.

Our squad is really limited but I'd have gone for something like this

Same back 5
Makoun, Clark, Delph
Ireland, Nzogbia
Bent

With what money?

McLeish didn't release NRC either. And NRC was offered a deal. He just thought he could get a better one instead.

Defence should be reasonably secure as long as Warnock stays focussed and disciplined.
