Hasn't delph been really out of form in pre season?

Indeed. All my enthusiasm for the new season has been drained away with that selection. It's as if AM is trying to accomadate players instead of trying to put a team together with some balance. Let's hope like Houllier's crazy team selections, he proves me wrong.

On a positive note, at least the bench looks strong.

errr....wheres our midfield ?
agreed. No ball winner leaves us very open.

We don't actually have a ball winner at the club so it's hardly McLeish's fault for not picking him.

Delph ahead of Makoun is an interesting one though. Be interested to see how young Fab does today. He needs a run but he has shown what he can do in flashes.

With Albrighton's form it makes sense that he is taken out of the firing line but I'm not sure about Heskey being the beneficiary.

I'm guessing we'll set up as follows:

---------------------------------------GIVEN-----------------------------------------

-----YOUNG-----------COLLINS--------------DUNNE---------WARNOCK--------

---------------------PETROV---------------------DELPH-----------------------
-----------------------------------N'ZOGBIA----------------------------------
-----------GABBY---------------------------------------------HESKEY---------
------------------------------------BENT--------------------------------------

Fulham wll want to dictate the game, but they lack creativity, so we should be able to frustrate them and hit them on the break. The question is whether our central midfield and central defence are so weak that we cannot even cope with Fulham's unimaginative attacking play.

I wonder if it's worth putting some cash on AM being the first manager to go in th PL.  I'm very, very worried about this season, starting with today, and that line up looks all wrong.  I hope not.  We shall see.....

Come on Villa.

I would have thought he is going 4-4-2 with Heskey or Gabby out wide.

Yep, that's what I think, with Heskey out on the left wing. I hope Delph is up to that box-to-box role, because I think that is what will be asked of him.

It's not a line up that fills me with hope, I have to say.
