North Stand - what to do ?
« on: July 28, 2011, 09:47:12 PM »
This post is going to seem like a 2008 throwback but what would you do about the North Stand ?

I think its an embarrassment, a carbuncle on the face of an ol friend if you like.  I would personally prefer us to knock it down and build a 'corners filled in' cheap as chips single decker with a capacity about 5,000 higher than now and make it a cheap as chips stand for families, bargain basement and local residents (within 2 miles of the stadium). All season tickets under £400. A new club shop and Villa Museum under it. It doesnt have to be fancy just not ugly like now. I know you'll all say "but we cant fill the current one" but I think we are missing loads of opportunity to sell cheap seats.

Give the back of it a bloody good scrub and leave the development for another day when we've got money to spunk on a new stand.  Would much rather see the money go on Scott Parker instead.

Knock it down into a big sloping pile, terrace it albeit with seats to comply with current regulations. But put a load of soil along the top at the back behind the seats, maybe get a pile of turf from B & Q garden centre and just let it grow.

I was on the Villa Park Tour the other week (belated 40th birthday treat) and they mentioned that there could be some development of the North Stand at the end of this season.

They cited this as one of the reasons why we aren't hosting any football matches in the Olympics as we couldn't guarantee the Olympic Committee that the pitch/stadium would be ready

Not sure how much truth there is in this but thought it worth sharing

It's been 11 summers since the destruction of the Trinity...the longest period of inactivity in modernising Villa Park?

I think we should knock it down and build a bigger version of Holte End with extra facilitates like museum, as there is no road cutting through the corner. Then it could be awesome.

Hasn't there been a lot of work done in modernising the restaurants and the Holte pub?   And BM of course, but just at VP there's been a fair amount of upgrading.

Why would a football club that will be unable to fulfill all their fixtures next season want another stand? Maybe we could go to the bankrupcy auction and see if we could make one half decent stand out of their four instead?

If the plan is still to develop it in the near future, now is the time to do it. A lot of builders/construction companies scratching around for work.
