0% Villa - 'Arry Redknapp
« on: July 20, 2011, 12:34:14 PM »
As we've been discussing lack of transfer activity somewhat lately, I thought i'd share this little nugget for you involving Harry 'I'm not a fakkkkkin wheeler dealer' Redknapp.

I've been re-reading Tom Bower's 'Broken dreams' book from 2003, in it it's revealed that Redknapp was involved in 134 transfers in his seven years at West Ham.
An incredible amount.

He was also very, very close to a couple of agents.
Say no more, say no more.

Now come on Fletch, lets not get into this.

He's going to be the next England manager you know, the saviour, the peoples champion. Surely someone considered for such a role can only be whiter than white, can't he? Like that nice Mr Venables.......

After just 4 games, Redknapp decided to stop playing ex-Villa man Gary Charles, this prompted an hilarious exchange between him and then West Ham chairman Terry Brown.

BROWN 'Is he no good?'

REDKNAPP 'Nah, but what do you expect for fakkkkin £1.2m?'

BROWN 'Well why did you buy him then, we're paying him a million a year in wages.'

REDKNAPP 'Yeah, but they're all fakkkkin getting it.'

A man of unimpeachable virtue.
The Rio Ferdinand transfer was good.
He'd been banging on to his chairman and the media saying he wouldn't sell him at any price as he wanted to build the side around him, he then suddenly changed his mind.
Could have been to do with the £300,000 he receieved on condition he never spent the proceeds from his sale.

My missus old man knows Brown quite well, used to play football with him down in London. Says he's a good bloke, but a little bit, erm, "wahey" as they say.

Within 15 posts this will turn into a discussion of how Spurs keep their wage bill artifically low by buying image rights.

I don't think even the wages of the manager of West Ham / Pompey / Saints would be enough to buy one of the top properties in Sandbanks.

Maybe he has other sources of income.

I'm pretty sure he bought that property when he was still in charge of lowly Bournemouth.
He raised their wage bill through the roof, as he also did at West Ham and Pompey.

Hmmmm.

I wonder what the total revenue from those 134 transfers amounted to, and then i wonder what say about 10% of that figure would amount to. Just wondering like.
Barry Fry must have been on a similar deal down the road, didn't he turnover about 51 players in one season.
