What's happened to the Leicester interest, they can afford him now.

Maybe he isn't deemed good enough ?

The problem is wages

If he's got 18 months left at 50k per week, why go to leicester for 20k

The difference of £30k a week over 18 months is £2.34m, so that's what he'd lose out on.  If we got say £1m for him and used that to give him a golden handshake, would he go for it?

Then pay him the rest aswell.  Net of the incoming fee we'd be paying £1.34m to see the back of him, but that's better than the £3.9m the remainder of his contract would cost us - a saving of around £2.5m.

Unless McLeish sees a use for him, why not?

It depends what kind of contract they're offering him.

If it is 12 months, then of course he won't, hometown club or not, he won't spunk money away like that.

He's been here 30 months.

He's scored 14 goals.

If he's on 65k a week, that is £288,600 a month when you factor in NI.

288,600 * 30 = £8,658,000

Throw on top of that his transfer fee of £3,500,000 and that makes his cost £12,158,000

This equates to £868,428 per goal.

In actual fact, those figures re the cost will lower than the actual figure as he'll no doubt have received signing on money, win bonuses etc etc etc.

Assuming he sits out the final year of his contract, peacefully grazing on a patch of grass at BMH, that will be another £3,463,000 in salary costs, which will bring his total cost to £15,621,200 plus whatever he has cost in other payments.

Amazing bit of business, that.

Doug would never have allowed it.

Part of me wants to shout at Randy for allowing it, as the person who signs the cheques, but the fact is, if he had not allowed it, had he said "not at that age and those wages", at that time he'd have been slaughtered for not supporting the manager.

Baffling purchase at the time, still baffling now. I can only think he was a panic buy as no rational person would be searching for a guy to score the goals to fire us into the CL and end up at Heskey's door. Mebbe MON knew as much about centre forwards as he did about centre halfs.

If it was any other player, and Randy had said no, then it's possible another Juninho-type scenario may have occurred, but this is Emile Heskey we're talking about - nobody wanted him.

I thought maybe it'd maybe, *maybe* make sense if we needed back up for Carew, in terms of a "similar" (ie physically powerful) player.

Those sort of wages to a player that old on that long a contract, though. Christ.

MON really did make some awful choices when it came to signing players; god knows how we ever ended up getting Ashley Young.
