Any chance someone could put the main points on here? Not aloud to change radio stations at work

Dont worry. The fact the words Doug & Ellis are in the title ensures this thread will get plenty of contributions.

He thinks Alex McLeish is an excellent choice, as he played under Ferguson at Aberdeen.

He also says he wasn't going to sell to anybody who needed to borrow money, and Randy was the only one of five candidates who had "real money." He is "absolutely sure" we can get back to the glory days of 81/82 as the ground, the training ground and the academy (which he set up, of course) are top notch and we are a "very big club." He is convinced we will go from strength to strength, as we have a very good owner. Villa are not a selling club, despite how the window looks this season.

Villa fans need to be patient and get behind McLeish and the team. And that's it!

He also thinks we're playing Blackburn on the opening day of the season and that he passed on to RL everything that's good at the club.

In fairness, he actually said  our first home game is against Blackburn on August 20th.

Heard the interview but nothing really much interesting about it.  was a bit pointless if you ask me.  He honestly believes that the glory days can one day return to Villa - not sure how he came up with that idea?

Villa fans just need to be patient and get behind Mcleish.  Nothing else really interesting was talked about.

Asked about Mcleish being told to retain existing backroom staff rather than bringing in his own people he was careful to not say too much and instead praised Randy.
Asked if Villa are a selling club, he gave an emphatic No. He talked about having a big squad and sometimes the need for a certain amount of culling.

Generally speaking the short interview was a chance for Doug to have a bit of self promotion, such as him going into detail about all his work with the academies. He heaped praise on the present administration and new management and spoke in nothing but positive terms for the future, which is what I would expect from the the clubs life President.

Whichever way you dress it up Villa ARE are selling club. The consistent selling of Barry, Milner, Young and soon Downing backs that theory up. The drain of top talent will continue as the players can't see top-four status or even top-six anytime soon. Lerner will not commit the significant funds required to take this club to the very highest level.

And on the seventh day god (aka Doug) created Aston Villa, and all was rosie in the garden of Villa Park.

Villafirst - I agree with you, but every club apart from a select few is a selling club, aren't they? A bit of a pointless question by Alan Brazil. And with regards to Doug saying we'll be back in the big time at some point, it's quite refreshing to hear a bit of optimism!
