Cameron may or may not be a decent enough bloke on a personal level and he may or may not be a genuine Villa supporter but because he is the leader of a party that stands for virtually everything I loathe in society and politics, every time I see a picture of him in a Villa shirt I cringe.
Summed up perfectly.

in truth I thought that about Labour by the end of Blair/Brown. It's not the same Labour as it was when I lived there where you felt they understood the working masses.
I'd have wanted to vomit if Blair, Brown or Milliband wore the shirt.
I hate the thought of any politician wearing our colours.

they are regular people though as well. You can hate them for their politics, but it doesn't mean that aren't allowed to have the same passions as anyone else. I have no idea how much of a Villa fan Cameron is, and quite frankly I don't care. If he wants to wear a Villa PJ set to bed, it's his business as much as he should be allowed to go out for a run wearing what he wants without someone taking a picture and having it blasted all over the internet.

At the risk of repeating myself

He has an a very good reason to do the "I'm just a normal bloke" who just happened to go to Public School, to play down The Bullingdon Club "Cameron's Cronies" photo

http://iconicphotos.wordpress.com/2010/03/14/the-bullingdon-club/

It might of course just be a coincidence that the photo is now banned in the national media

honestly Chris? What's he got to gain from wearing a Villa top?

Man of the people and all that.
"Look at me, I love footy, and I don't just like Manchester and Arsenal, I like little old Aston Villa, aren't I great and just like a normal person?"

again, I think we're looking deeper into that we need to. If he really wanted to be a man of the people Dave he'd have a Tamworth top on ;)

He'd just get taken for a homeless tramp in one of them.

He wouldn't be the first.

Boris too !

What I don't agree with is chastising a bloke for being born into a family hence having no choice as to how he would develop.

In other words, he can't help being born into wealth nor being able to receive privileges not afforded to us.

UTV I say !!

Without the help of the working man (and more recently the Lib Dems), the Conservatives wouldn't have a hope in hell of being elected. Working class Conservatism (whether in your view that is aspirational or merely delusional) has been an important factor in post-war politics.

Incidentally, wonder if Cameron has covered more miles in his Villa top than Dickie Dunn managed all last season in his? They look similar fitness levels.

Now now Steve, we'll have less of this considered, rational debate on here.

Didn't you know that on Heroes & Pravda, all Tories are upper class twits who look down on us working class folk and are only supported by their brainwashed lackies whilst Labour represents all that is great about the Socialist movement and looks out for the working man in his struggle against injustice.

It's all true I tells ya.  Next week, the Loch Ness Monster, definitive proof.

Where's the debate in Steve's point?

He's right, working class Conservative voters have been a feature of British politics for decades, whether it was the original deferential cap doffers, or the aspirational working classes who voted for Thatcher.

What's the relevance of that to David Cameron, though?

And if you're going to make a point about political stereotypes, it'd have more relevance if it wasn't wrapped up in a childish reference to "Heroes and Pravda".

The epitome of the modern politico: jogging and football.

And by the looks of his gut, he gets out jogging about as often as he gets down to Villa Park.

I will personally break my 25-year abstention from participation in the electoral democratic process for any politician who comes out and says, "I know nothing about football, care even less and won't insult your intelligence by squeezing my outsized gut into a shoddy piece of sweat-shop stitched polyester in frankly unflattering primary colours advertising a Korean photocopier manufacturer in order to convince you otherwise in a nakedly fraudulent attempt to court your support."

Just as I would have been physically sick at the image (or thought) of Margaret Thatcher in a Villa shirt I'm as equally disturbed by a self confessed "child of Thatcher" in one. It's all part of his (he's just a normal guy) act - as staged as that video blog from his home. He's a dangerous tosser that is lining the pockets of his rich school chums, whilst his policies will have a long lasting negative effect on the vast majority of people.  He's one of the last people I want to see in a Villa shirt coming just  behind Harold Shipman.
Would you have the same objections if he played a game of keepy-uppies with McLeish or claimed he used to spend most weekends on the Holte cheering on Tony Daley ? Or would that be ok, and just what a 'normal guy' who went to public school would do ?

I would have exactly the same objection if he played a game of keepy-uppies with any of our past or future managers as I object to him using the club for his own PR purposes.

It would be interesting to hear him speak more about his alleged support - if he has spent every other weekend in the directors box cheering on Tony Daley, Tony Morley or even Tony Dorigo at least it would add some validity to his "I'm a Villa fan story". As his job is basically spin and lies I know he does have a "story" to hand, how true that "story" is, I fear is an entirely different matter.

Just  to recap, he has to do the "I'm just a normal bloke" who just happened to go to Public School, to play down The Bullingdon Club "Cameron's Cronies" photo

http://iconicphotos.wordpress.com/2010/03/14/the-bullingdon-club/

Interestingly the photo is now banned in the national media

I think it was Michael Foot. It may have been the longest suicide note in history but at least Footie never mentioned footie.
