The PM passed me as I cycled west through Kensington Gardens just before 7.30am this morning, just past the Serpentine Gallery.I did a double-take - he was surrounded by FIVE protection officers (four men and a woman) - and noticed he was wearing a footie shirt with his name and the number of 10 Downing Street on the back.At first I thought it was a West Ham shirt but then realised it was more likely to be Villa - nearer his Witney constituency. But I needed a pic. First I waited for him near the Serpentine gallery, and then as he and his team passed the Serpentine lake. But with only my BlackBerry to hand, I couldn't get the "money shot" - one that showed CAMERON 10 on the back of the shirt.Despite his scary-looking police officer (the bald one who looks like ex-Villa goalie Brad Friedel) giving me a filthy look and demanding: "Haven't you got anything better to do?" I pedalled back to Hyde Park Corner for one last attempt. There Mr Cameron and his officers had stopped for a breather, having probably been running for at least 30 minutes. I introduced myself as being from the Evening Standard and asked if he would pose for a picture with his shirt - but he declined and would only say: "I am an ardent fan."(At first I thought he was talking about the Evening Standard but he repeated the phrase when I said I liked the No10 on his back.)Sadly, I didn't get a shot of "CAMERON 10" but you can just about make it out from my amateurish video clip above.Downing Street's press office hasn't responded to my question about whether the shirt was a present, but a spokesman for Aston Villa told me he believed the club had presented the PM with a replica shirt - but couldn't be sure it was the one he was wearing.
He'll have to change it to Albrighton Street for this season.
As ever, time to point out this is the same David Cameron who always said he wasn't a Villa supporter.
