Turnaround ??
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:26:14 PM »
Is it me or do I feel a VERY slow turnaround in the air regarding Alex McLeish?. Like most others I was aghast at the very mention of him even being considered by the Villa. Actually appointing him seemed to be a MAJOR mistake and complete failure of Randy to measure the depth of feeling of the supporters. Even more baffling considering that McClaren was apparently not even interviewed due to the feeling of the fans.
However, like many others I was impressed by his words and apparent conviction and good old common sense with his first press conference. I am also liking his dabblings and possible signings in the transfer market. Yes,yes i know none have become concrete yet but the pursuit of Canales/Foster/Given/N'Zogbia and his apparent wish to nurture and give the likes of Bannon and Lichaj a chance all ring the right chords with me personally.
The first three games are very winnable and will go a long way to determine the kind of season we are likely to be in for. We all know there will be no honeymoon period but I just get the feeling (yes, prove me wrong )that some on here, including me are softening a little towards ol'ginger pubes.

I don't think there has been much change at all.  We're in the same situation as the day he was appointed, and that is that we have no option but to give him a chance and judge him on the results and performances.  Some of these names are all very nice, but at this stage it is all speculation.  Regardless of what names are brought in, the results will still be the means by which he is judged.

The pursuit of anyone is just press chatter at the moment.

If there is any change in the way people feel about him, it is going to be entirely down to the fact that we've had time to get used to it. He's not said owt since the press conference, so there isn't anything to judge him on.

I think it's a case of reluctant acceptance for some and hope/blind faith for others. McLeish is our manager and we collectively are Aston Villa so it would be best if we were all on the same side.

The last stage of grief is acceptance.

A real turnaround with people liking and being happy with him as manager will only result from a good run of results.

I always look forward to the new season and can't wait for the first game. Hating McLeish would ruin my anticipation so I have no choice but to support him and pretend to myself that he is a hidden gem and could take us to the top.

Around October I will be thinking that he has just had a bad start, he can pull it together and just needs to settle in.

December will be about anticipating the much needed signings, if he gets the right men we coud end up with a good sqaud and strenghten, he has only had half a season, give him another transfer window to get in his guys and he could pull off a massive turnaround.

February I am wanting the season to end, I'm turning up late to the games and very intoxicated.

April I am getting another round in at 14:55, half time I am staying in the concourse enjoying my pint whilst watching the game on the screen. Going back to my seat will mean further to walk when the game finishes and put me at more risk from falling down the stairs.

So Slaphead, it seems like every Feb and April you fall apart?

February you can fall apart
March, April break my heart (especially given our March form)
May doesn't even start (because the season ends)
