How friggin' sad.
5-1 Liverpool Dec 15th 1976, along with the 2-0 vs Liverpool in 1981, a defining moment in the title chase.
And of course Rotterdam.
Oh, and seeing the Michel Platini inspired Juve at VP.
And actually the Lge Cup win in 1994 was pretty special, given the odds on ManUre winning it.

5-1 against the ASBO-served neighbours is great but incidental given our history.

I've seen us get a draw at The Britannia Stadium.

Our Finest Hour.

Oh I'd definitely say that's the case Dave.

But in even fairly recent history, you have beating Man U away for the first time in decades, beating Liverpool away and turning Chelsea over a few times.

All those were sweeter (for me) than nailing an already doomed and pisspoor Championship side.

that's the point as well - we expected to beat them as they were shit, in fact Kevin Phillips 1-0 was possibly better due to the relief!

Our 3-1 win against Small Heath was a far more important win in Villa's history than the 5-1.

Aye. I'd rate both of those victories that season as more satisfying than the one in 2008.

What was his return?

Think it was 40/1

1982 by a country mile.
The 1983 Super Cup beating of Barcalona was pretty good too.

Geeze ... I've only followed the club since 2008, and I'd still pick the '82 cup final over the 5-1 win by a mile.

Beating Small Heath is better than winning the European Cup. How small time are we?

I'm sure it was the kids vote that won it. They clearly haven't got a clue.

I would go with that plus:

Bournemouth/Andy Lochead
Everton/League Cup/Old Trafford
Man U/League Cup Semi-Final

I'd stick with moments in games that I was actually at for this sort of thing - nothing beats being there to feel the excitement - that 5-1 over the Blues doesn't come close.  For me, in no particular order

Kent Nielsens goal against Inter Milan
Phil Kings penalty against Inter Milan
Dalian Atkinson's goal in front of the Holte against Tranmere
Gary Cahills goal at the Holte against Blues
Deano's penalty to make it 3-1 on 1994 league cup final

1982 has to be top.
1976 Dec 15th, sat in Trinity , just could'nt believe how good we were.
League cup win over Everton at Old Trafford, Chris's amazing long range effort.
Listening to European commentaries from far flung bits of europe with Butler imploring prayer mats and the theme tune blaring out.
And yes 5-1, going round costco with increasingly frenetic mobile calls from my son telling me how great it was to put 2 then 3 then 4 and so on past an admittedly poor team. Spent far more than I should have!
And sitting in a Hospital cafe, celebrating the birth of first grandson, listening to us demolish Bolton with said son was good too.
