Avram Grant being consider by villa
« on: June 27, 2011, 12:34:48 PM »
Rumours circulating on twitter are that Avram Grant is being considered for a job at villa either as DOF or Assitant Manager. Personally I belive he would do a good job of DOF but why did we move Houlier on and not just give him the position! Only logical explaination is he wouldn't accept the offer.

Queue much wailing and gnashing of teeth from people who don't really understand the difference between Grant's managerial career in England and his potential abilities as a DoF

I do agree though that GH would be a much better option, should he want it.

We might as well get Ian Holloway in to help with match day entertainment

Nobody will no more about relegation than us.

Only joking. Any help we can get from someone as experienced as Grant would be worth having.

The thing with GH would surely be the salary. Id say that a DOF gets paid significantly less than the manager. So it would have either meant asking GH to take a pay cut to move upstairs, or over paying him.

Fair point actually, glasses. We could always offer him a take it or leave it package. Considering he got a pay off for leaving the managerial post, I don't think he'll be too stuck for money. It's obvious he loves the game, but a role such as this could be the best option for him. Much less stressful but still heavily involved in long-term planning.

He was doing the DOF thing at Chelsea, and quite well if you believe what you hear, and that got him the managers job when Mourinho left.  I see no harm if talking to him about it, if the reports are true.

As for Gezza, I think he wanted to stay as manager so maybe his departure was less than friendly, hence him not being considered as a DOF?

GED nearly died. He will not return to any form of work for anyone. The man needs to rest!

Well, it seems obvious that Grant don't have the decisiveness to be a successful Premier League manager, but that doesn't mean that he would be useless in a DoF role.

However, in my opinion, McLeish is not capable to an omnipotent manager a la Ferguson and Wenger (or perhaps Houllier), and appointing a DoF to complement him might not be a bad idea.

Not saying that Grant is the right/a good choice, mind.

This rumour comes from a fake General Krulak account. The same account has tweeted we will be bringing in Holloway as Youth Team coach to complete a relegation treble. Move on, it is a wind up.

It's Peter Grant his number 2 at Blues not Avram Grant.
